I'm about to do the repair to fix my gas and temperature gauge problems and the diagrams at allpar seem to say there is a positive and negative but the ones I've purchased at radio shack do not indicate a positive or negative...vic

Electrolytic capacitors, the ones that look like little cans, do have a polarity which will be marked on the outside of the can. The ceramic capacitors which loosely resemble M&Ms are not polarized. You can install them either way with no ill effects.
