I picked up a slant 6 (lucky me) from the junkyard yesterday and they said it came out of a 1990 s10. I didn't know the s10 came with a slant 6, and the only numbers I've been able to find on the block are 330-3 and 2820 on one side, and just 2820 on the other. I can post pictures if that will help. It was colored blue when I got it, and covered with a $#!+ load of grease or something. I'd love to rebuild this thing and make it run like new, only I don't know which rebuild kit to buy because I don't even know what kind of engine it is. lol. So can someone help me figure this out? =D

Slant 6s didn't come in Chevys. Didn't come in Dodge Dakotas either. They did come in plenty of Chrysler Corp passenger cars and truck though.

Read this to help you ID what you have.
http://www.slantsix.org/articles/dutra- ... blocks.htm

Looking over that article it looks like it doesn't cover the later blocks that used cast cranks. If you don't have the large casting numbers as shown in the block article you could very well have a mid '76 or later cast crank 225.

Are you sure they didn't say "Aspen"? Although they didn't make those after 1980 or so.

So is this a good engine for putting in a truck? It looks pretty badass, it's so huge lol.

Post some pictures and we'll see if we can help ID your engine. Post them on Photobucket or the like and use the Img tag.

Is there any particular part I should try to get a picture of? Like I've been trying to get the exhaust manifold off (it looks like the carb sits right on the exhaust manifold)

Here is the engine, if you want a different angle I can do that too.

Here is some random number I found on the block (2820) there is also 330-3 printed on the left of it. (Not in picture)

This is what was on the little sticker on the top of the motor.

Look for a machined pad with numbers stamped, not cast. It's about 1/4 wide just below the frontmost spark plug at the mating surface between the head and block. Post those number if they are there and someone will be able to decode them for you.

Look at the other end of the block, the water pump end immediately under the #1 spark plug. It is a horizontal milled suface. You may need to clean the gunk off of it to see anything.

Underneath the other end's plug was the coil, which I removed. Here is what was there after I removed the coil and scraped the gunk off.

Did I not look in the right spot? Sorry if I misread your post.

David was refering to the machined surface the head bolts to. It's behind the bracket on the front of the engine under spark plug #1. You would look down onto it where the spark plug is. By the looks of things, you won't see the stamped number until you clean things up.

This engine is Huge? I must be getting old!

I FOUND IT! I took the mount off and cleaned the top of the cover. WOW. The numbers read 225 T4 22E then a little symbol thingy. So...what does it mean? Thank you for your help!

There are a couple of guys on here who know how to decode that. I'll have to wait for one of them to answer; but that's the info that's needed.

It's a 225 that's for sure. The rest will tell the year and stuff.
