well my duster with the /6 died at idle too. turned out to be a dry rotted fuel line, then just needed the mixure on the carb redone after that. though my duster is a 76. have you checked out the fuel lines though?

no. did it leak?

I think it may be a dead idle control valve...it looks eletric and it does not move cold or warmed up...

any idea of the time/ing set...I put a light on it and the pully mark (which i marked with a soapstone) wasnt even on the degree plate it was futher down to the left looking down from the front of the motor, and I move the distributor to get it in the middle of the degree palte...it jumped around quite a bit...why would it do that? motor has 156K super clead when i replaced the valve cover gasket. 1 owner truck when i bought tit.

no i didnt notice any leaks at all from it. i think it was lack of pressure... i dont know about the timing, i havent had to do that is so long. since the duster any way, i havent driven it in 5-6years. plus im having to learn/relearn the car stuff.

Welcome on the board. Correct ignition timing depends on the part number of your truck's spark control computer, as follows:

4289601: 16 deg
4289603: 12 deg
4289613: 12 deg
4289615: 16 deg
4289617: 12 deg
4289621: 12 deg
4289637: 8 deg

The spark control computer itself is a prime suspect with problems like this. It should be eliminated if your local regulations permit it. Start by reading this thread.

I am pretty sure it's tucked in the left inner fender behind the battery.
