Is transmission fliud a good alternative to honing oil? If so does it matter what grade? You know, atf, mercon, dextron, and type f. Besides tranny fluid, what else is acceptable?

Do you mean for honing the engine cylinders? If so, then yes I have used it for years. I use whatever grade I have around or is cheapest at the parts store. For brake cylinders I only use brake fluid.

3 in1 oil works pretty good, And I have even used Kerosene. You really dont want something that is to slippery, you want it to cut, but clean out the stone as its cutting, but without gaulding.
