Edelbrock didn't buy Carter, but they did buy the AFB and AVS carb designs, prints, and tooling from ACF Industries. The bolt-up patterns haven't been changed.

You could be right about that; I'm not exactly sure of the manufacturing/marketing arrangement.

The Edelbrocks are good carbs and use the same jets and rods and springs as the carters. The only edelbrock carb that has problems that I know of is the 750. Whoever designed the boosters for that carb either was working for Holley on the sly or was on drugs. Dave

The air horn is a different diameter. The OEM Carter AFB used a smaller dia air cleaner opening. Not sure on the other stuff.

Edelbrock, Weber, Carter....Same poop, different dog.

I have 2 1405's and a 1406.

I tried a 1405 on my Slant and it had some good points and some bad points. Yes, I have a strip kit and played around with jets and needles.

I ended up with the 1406 because someone else couldn't get it to work on a Slant.

They look cool laying on the shelf next to each other though.

So if you have a 500 cfm Edelbrock carb on your slant six, just driving around with the primaries it should be flowing @ 250 cfm, is that right?
