Can some one scare up some pics of slant pressure plates for me? Spec is asking for them.

The Engineer there is being really helpful, and I may have something to report soon.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,

PM me your email and I'll send you a pic or few. Might take me a week since I'm travelling. PM me again if I forget.

Lou

Sandy, do you have part numbers or other cross referenceable info? That would help.

Greg...I have a stock 9" flywheel + pressure plate and T/o bearing. The disc is a 9 1/8 unit from McLeod I bought on Ebay...they subbed in a ceramic disc when the kevlar one I bought was not available. I have a Ford 5 speed so the disc is for a Taurus SHO or Turbo Tbird Coupe.

Have a look on the mcLeod site...there is some good stuff...including 10 "units they say are NOT for performance use.

Here are some 9.25 PP Pics.

This is a multiple bolt pattern parts store unit.

Thanks Greg and Lou. I will send them on to the Spec Engineer, and see what he says.

They are working out a special 10" slant six/T5 combo right now for us. The engineer I have been working with, Matt, is checking out mopar/chev/ford/Nissan 10 inch pressure plates, specifically to find a modern diaphragm style PP that will work for us.

The prices seem reasonable, and more than competitive. Matt's goal is to come up with a part number for this combo, so that anybody else can easily replicate the package.

I will let you all know more in about a week.

Hi all,

So, I have been working with Matt at SPEC clutches over the last couple of months. I needed a mustang disk ( or a custom disk with a T5 hub) and a pressure plate that would fit our flywheel. I got a 300 ft/lbs custom kit from them, and in initial fit testing, the clutch is working very well.

Image

The clutch disk has kevlar friction surfaces

Image

The pressure plate is a modern diaphragm style, and will work with the standard T5/mustang diameter TO bearing
Image

This is a 9" clutch, and weighs a lot less than the 10", but should have the same or better holding power.

Matt has talked to me about offering this whole thing as a single part number, either with the ford style clutch disk hub, or a mopar one. We decided to wait until we test it all out on my car. If this works, it should be easy to order your own.

I will keep updating this thread as more is learned. Thanks to Lou and Menko for helping out.

Greg

Very cool Greg!

Its interesting we ended up with a 9" clutch on this.

My pieced together clutch is also 9"...I used a McLeod disc for a Taurus SHO (9") with a stock PP.....it seems very good so far. I originally ordered a Kevlar disc but McLeod subbed in a ceramic disc.

I certainly agree a 9" weighs a ton less than the 10"

It always seemed to me the 10" mopar setup was an afterthought .....kinda sorta modded to work on the slant.

Is that a 10 spline disc?

Good work Dude!

yup, 10 spline disk here. They are willing to do a mopar splined disk as well, for 833 applications.

Thanks for the compliment, Sandy. Considering your pioneering efforts, we couldn't have done this without you.

I don't know how many 273 cars with the 122 tooth flywheels are left, but this would help them as well.

Does this pressure plate have a steel ring instead of a cast ring ?

I wander if they will make one that holds more power than this, like a 500ftlb setup ?

Nice looking clutch, its good to see companies willing to help.
A stick setup will be going in mine soon as I get the tranny built. I have a new 9" setup already but its nothing special.

Jess

Does anyone care that the friction material pictured does not appear to be Kevlar? Spec Clutch's Kevlar material is tan. The organic material is pictured in Greg's post.
