Over on another board (c-body) there has been a lot of discussion about overdrive transmissions and the common feeling is that there really isn't much out there to bolt up behind a 440 or 383 (at least cleanly). But I posted some questions about a diesel conversion, or doing something to improve the eficency of the 273. I just thought what about an overdrive? Or even a five speed? Anybody know of anything that could bolt up to a slant six?? :D

There are numerous ways to install a 5-speed or a 4-speed overdrive transmission behind a slant-6. This has been discussed many times in the past. Please spend some time using the board's search function to read up on the old threads.

The 'quick and dirty' way to an OD manual tranny is the Mopar A-833OD box... for the 273 getting a bellhousing from a 1975+ 318 vehicle would be the best shoe-in for making the tranny work... for the slant, they were fairly common in A/F bodies after 1975, and for the longer version check on 1975+ D-100 trucks (that tranny works for B/E bodies and trucks...)

Automatic overdrives become a different story....
