Got a chance to do some carpet for a set of 16X8 Mustang wheels with tires

I think they are "Pony wheels????" Kind of like Motor Wheel Spiders.

Lots of fun VS my alloy Jeep 15X7's?

What size can I run?

I have 16X8 mustang rims on my 64 Dart with 245/45-16s. You will need some wheel spacers to get them to sit at the right offset.

When I do the factory disc conversion I will still need the spacers?

My rear is going to be a '66 B body 8 3/4.

You will be close in the rear, maybe no spacers.

Front discs will still need some spacers - at least 0.5". You will run into the UCA and/or U balljoint, and maybe tie rod end with rim.

I just installed 17x8 bullit wheels on the rear of my car, no spacers perfect fit P245/45ZR17 tires no rubbing with stock spring location & 67 b-body 8 3/4".

I checked your link there. What did those wheels set you back and where did you buy them? Do you know what the back spacing is, or the offset?
How did this effect the ride, and or the economy of the car?

I got them used on craigslist locally $300.00 for the set, they do have some curb rash. They are 1998-2004 mustang bullit 17x8" 5.72"BS with I think 30mm offset. With the P245/45ZR17 falken I got were almost the same overall diameter as my P235/60R15 on 15X7" rims. I love the handling with them.I also have all poly bushings on the rear & new road race/perf street leafs from Firm Feel & addco 3/4" rear sway bar.

The factory "bullit" wheels will fit on the rears, but the hub centers are too small to fit on the front of a-bodies. I have a set of those mustang wheels that I tried to put on my car, and the hub centers were too small up front.

They are close. I just opened my stock 16X7.5 Mustang wheels with a drum sanding wheel on my elec drill in about 5 min - fit fine now.

The ones I am getting have the wavy flower petal plastic silver pony center.

It seems to me the back space numbers do not add up. If the back space is 5.72 on the Mustang wheels, and the stock back space should be 4.5" with 8", then you need 1.25" of spacers there. If it is different than that, then your scrub radius in the front will be wrong. Comments?

Scrub radius is different depending on your spindles and LCAs anyway on a Dart (KH vs. drums vs. late discs). I don't think 1/2" is going to kill you. 4.75" is the correct backspace for an 8" rim on a Mopar. I have 0.7" spacers on the front of my Dart.

I am just amassing parts to put the 11.75" Mopar rotors and Wilwood calipers on my '68. Should be a great swap and I'll have BBP all around. Those brakes are killer.

I machined the rotor snout on my 11 3/4" rotors so the wheels fit perfect to the rotor.

I hope that is just a metaphor. I understand your math on the backspace now. I am 1/2" off the other way. And I don;t like the way it changed the car. The wheels do not want want to self center as readily out of a highway exit as when it had the stock cop car wheels. You end up doing more "steering".

That feeling was why I chose to buy the Toyota Matrix over the Yaris. The Yaris has electric power assist which really creates a disconnect from the road. I guess that kind of steering might become more comon. In other regards I liked the Yaris. But that steering was a deal breaker for me. That is why I want to optimize the steering geometry on the Dart if I can.

I hate power steering of any kind, except on large vehicles...

One possibility with your steering problem is too much difference between track front and rear on the car. I have seen this with different wheels/brakes/spacers on front and back, and it is very annoying. Try throwing 1/2" spacers in on front, then back and see if problem gets better.

I am getting ready to try a 16:1 box in the '64. Should be light enough so it's not too much effort. The 24:1 has always been great except in really tight corners.
