 Post subject: 2 barrel from a 1 barrel

I got a carter 2 barrel off a van today for $43.00 w/alum. intake.My main question is how I hook up the throttle linkage?My cars a 63 dart w/ the steel rod linkage.This carb. has linkage on the inside toward the engine.should I convert to a cable type linkage?......And will i need a bigger exaust pipe?.........If anyone has done this before i'd appreciate some ideas.......thanx,6boy..... :wink:

You will need to find the cable throttle linkage, look for one off a V8 or a Supersix in a passanger car.

Did you get the exhaust manifold with the 2 bbl intake?
Your exhaust pipe will bolt-up to either manifold but the choke stove and linkage is different.

thanx for the help Doc!!! I also have a auto tranny w\the rod type linkage.You think i'll need to change somthin there?

oh yeah, no i did'nt get the exaust manifold.i was short on cash.(as always)i dont use the choke now anyways.i just let it warm up real good before takin off.i am goin back for the air cleaner as mine wont fit.i hope its still there.i'll try to get the ex.manifold as long as long as i dont see any cracks!...later,6boy.....

What you got was a Super Six manifold and carb setup. I'm planning on doing the same upgrade to my 63 Dart 270 convert at some point. In the engine forum there is a lot of information about doing this upgrade. Just do a search on Super Six. I also found a good article on doing the conversion at:

With your automatic trans you'll also need the kickdown linkage. Apparently, you'll have to bend it some to get it to fit but it should work. That is, unless the truck you got it from has a different linkage. Anyone else know if it will work on his car?

Also, I read somewhere that you should paint your aluminum intake with a good heat resistant paint. The aluminum can sometimes be porous.
