While you have the firewall opened........how far you gonna set back the motor?
As far back as possible.

The motor should end up roughly 7" farther back than the small block was. It will still be in front of the bottom of the windshield.

With that much set back it would seem that the valve cover would be well under the windshield. Something I've been wondering about with my Turismo as well...

Before we started cutting I measured the distance from the stock firewall to the base of the windshield. There was almost 10", and we can safely move the firewall back 9". No part of the motor will be under the windshield I hope.

Too hard to get in and out of, too hard to judge other cars coming up on you, and absolutely no need to.

I wanna race this thing, not die in it.

Try and crawl out between the wheel tubs and cage. Also, the hatch locks from the outside. :D

Lexan escape hatch, 007 ejecter seat!

Every race car I have been in the driver had it set up for someone shorter than me.

Actually, you can not even get close to being under the hatch because of the wheel tubs and cage. The cage is about 3 inches in front of the tubs and the seat is about 3 inches in front of the cage. As it is, the seat is too close to the cage to be legal with me in the car.

Added a couple more pics today of the stuff we cut out. Patrick has to work the next 2 weekends so we will be taking a little time off.

Next Saturday I am going to try and get the motor back in my buddy Bill's Swinger. It developed a death rattle that turned out to be loose converter bolts, but they had ruined the flexplate. I am also going to pull the pan just for a look-see.

You're definitely cutting out some metal in there!

So Patrick is going to make another K member to fit the LCAs you're building?

I thought you said it's amazingly easy...

You're moving right along.

There will be no K-frame as such Rob. We are actually doing a semi-tube chassis. We put a 2X2 box crossmember in behind the core support and extended the frame tubes up to it from the 3X2 boxes that they used for the back-half job. The A-arms will connect to those frame extensions.

After looking it over Saturday I almost wish we would have cut off the stock frame horns too and done a full tube front end. Oh well, that's a project for another time. :D

The guy that is/was selling that Daytona RWD kit on FABO sliced the entire front end off at the firewall area and said he was putting a 'Jegster's" front end on it. I guess that would be a ver straight forward way of doing it, but probably much more expensive.
