This is a 78 "peanut" head

The exhaust ports? I smoothed and didn't gasket match. I didn't remove a lot of material.

Intake and exhaust bowls are smoothed and the rough edges were ground off. The exhaust bowls have a hole for the air injection. (it is a 78 California head with a factory block off plate.)

The intake port? So far I have it gasket matched. All smoothed. I didn't take out a bunch of material.

I am thinking I can open up the intakes more than the gaskets. I was going to smooth the intake and not gasket match the manifold on the intake side. I am thinking this will create an anti-reversion effect. I called to find out if the '80 has an air pump.

I was thinking that the exhaust manifold needs to me bigger than the gaskets. Once again to create an anti-revesion effect.

Going to run the stock 1980 solid truck cam, super6 intake, 833OD in a B100 van. Will be using a cat. It is a work truck, I have no idea what he is running for gears.

We are going to mill the head, no idea how much.

The chambers? Polished, I grooved them a little for the flame travel from the plug hole towards the exhaust valve. The valves were unschrouded by radiusing them.

Questions?

Comments?

Criticisms?

I am compiling some pics.

Do not spend a ton of effort on the ports, more on the bowls and blending into the valve seat. You want exh port to be a bit smaller than the header pipe, from what I know, so don't go much beyond the gasket if at all.

Forget about polishing. It will likely all be covered with carbon and residue after a short time anyway.

If this is a work truck, then maybe mill 0.060" to bump comp a little, but not too much.

Lou

Polishing it over-rated for at home porting. Make it look nice so there is less for the carbon to stick to. Use a gasket as a template, and don't bell shape to it.

Yep to the above. Exhaust is still small.

What I don't like is the air injection holes in the exhaust bowl I think he has an air pump. Gotta pass emissions in Nashville.

Yep, not going for mirror finish.

.060 off the head is figuring I am using a Permatorque Blue head gasket?

I wonder about just reusing the factroy steel gasket.
