Good evening to all,
I took a factory aluminum intake to a machinest today and see if he could make the mods needed to install a supercharger (the one like Al T), and he stated the intake would not hold the pressures of the added boost; he also stated that would have to grind off and the factory seams holding the top and bottom together and then tig weld the top and bottom back together.
The question is does anyone know if this is true or not and does anyone know if there is a one barrel solid aluminum intake out there and where to find one as all I can find a 4 barrel intakes which I have an Offy but I really don't want to cut that one up.
Thanks again for any all support in my quest.
Thanks
Ron

It probably wouldn't hold boost very well, seeing as how it is so porous it barely can handle atmospheric pressure. But there were plenty of solid aluminum manifolds made. They are just like the iron ones, just a whole lot lighter. Avoid the welded aluminum manifold.

I saw on ebay, that someone is selling intake flanges now. They are steel but if you aren't worried about weight how about a sheet metal intake? It would be alot easier for a do it yourselfer to put together.

I am almost positive that same guy has aluminum flanges for sale, he has had them before. Best bet would be to contact him.

As far as a cast aluminum intake look around for earlier engines, I believe most of those were not seamed/welded.

One-piece cast aluminum intakes were used on all 1960 slant-6s, and on the 1976 Feather Duster/Dart Lite. Mopar Performance offered a one-piece cast aluminum 2bbl intake. The 1960 manifolds are the only one-piece cast aluminum factory items without EGR valve provisions.

Seems to me an aftermarket intake such as the Offy 4bbl might also serve as a good base for the type of manifold conversion work you have in mind.

Thanks again and if anyones knows where any are please let me know.

Nope. See above for factory aluminum intake applications.
