Is it the starter that clicks, or is it the starter relay that clicks? Is this really a new starter, or is it a "remanufactured" unit from a parts store?

it's a new starter. it seems as if the starter doesn't have enough strength to turn the engine over until i get it in a good spot then it has no problem.

Are you really sure it's actually a new starter? Where did you buy it, and under what brand name?

"Reman" is not a brand, it is slang for "remanufactured". You cannot buy a new starter for this application at a parts store. I'm afraid either the counterman at Kragen wasn't clear (deliberately or unintentionally) or you misunderstood him.

Remanufactured parts tend to be junk, no matter how fancy the box they come in or the warranty certificate they come with. The most likely culprit is a bad starter. You'll keep on having the same problem if you keep on buying "reman" parts. You will do better to visit a wrecking yard near you and buy a good used starter from a 1990 to 2000 Dodge truck or van with 3.9, 5.2, or 5.9 engine. It's a compact high-power mini starter that will spin the engine much faster and more quietly than the old starter.

A new mid 90's dodge truck /van starter is offered for $100 in EBAY under number 220223255163. Is this the same as the mini starter Dan recommended?
