I was just brainstorming and was looking at the area between the valve cover and the manifolds, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a half decent idea to mill that area smooth and then drill for the injectors to get them nice and close to the backs of the valves?

I have only one slant and it is installed in my car so this is just a little playful "Bench Engineering" but any thoughts would be welcome.

You would have to bore a big hole and weld/braze/epoxy in a tube as there is water between that ledge above the port face and the intake ports.

Yep, lots of water jacket there. Not worth the trouble, IMHO.

Isn't the head also significantly hotter then the intake?

I would worry also if the mix was run too lean for too long, you might melt the o-rings on the injectors... or worse...

I should have guessed there was a jacket there, they built the Slant so strong I guess I just figured the head was solid! :) Thanks for the input.

This is something I thought about, too. Even drilled a hole in a junk head to check. It does make for nice injector targeting - right at the valve! But I decided the machining/sealing issues made it not worth the trouble.

Years ago (70s), there was an article on a Plymouth Cricket Wagon that had a highly modified slant. They actually cut a bunch of the area of the port out of the way and pressed in tubes. They then placed a cut carb on top of each tube. Needless to say it look really awesome and ran in the tens. I don't remember which mag it was in, but that is what hooked me on the thought of a hot six.

They cut the dominator carb right in half. They then placed the half of the carb right over the top of two cylinders.

Maybe you could mill a hole and install a iron tube with pipe threads, then set the injector in the bottom of the tube, with an o-ring in the bottom?

Wasn't there somebody already doing this? I thought I saw recent pictures of a head drilled out for the tubes, on this site.
