More gear does NOT mean better times. Even for 1/8 mile. The right gearing makes better times.
having the combo all singing the same song will make a car as competitive as having all the fancy stuff.
Need your race weight with you in the car. I think i saw a 2450 somewhere in the thread.
Need tire height (Actual, not tire size)
Need camshaft duration @ .050" then can figure the proper combo.
I gear my cars to reach peak HP RPM just before they cross the finish line .
I am running 3:91 in my current rail with a 30 inch tire.
Over gearing is a huge problem with mopar racers. I work to the 1/4 mile and let the 1/8 fall where it does.
If you are reaching 5200 at the traps then you should probably gear for that exactly.
That would mean to me anyway your cam is about 221 degrees @ 050 assuming it is a solid. If that is so then it is unlikey to pulll above that RPM.
This stuff is very figurable.
I know the temptaion is just to run what everyone else does. I also know the BS around the campfire after the races tends to be treated as gospel but the car doesnt care about that. It needs what it needs and anything outside of that always slows it down.
An 8.32 however is not bad. Keep plugging away obviously you're doing something right. All the best

I did the math. Car is capable of 106mph to 108mph in the quarter (has sufficient HP to pull that MPH in a 1/4 mile at that weight.) It will however run out of RPM since that is above the power band of the engine (cam duration) It would have to have 3.91s to run that with the tires you have. (height)
You could borrow a set of 29.5 s or 30s and that would get you awful close . It wouldnt cost a dime if from a friend.
I also would shft at 5400. I know when we used to run 440 race cars. (Old Reliable) We ran a bunch of shift loops. Shifting at 6500 lost 3 tenths in et as opposed to shifting at engine peak (finishline RPM ) of 6050RPM.
Might all seem goofy to some of you but cost is $0. You can pooh pooh and jeer all you want but what if it works?

In sacramento I got the 1/8th down to a 8.16 @83 mph.!/4 time was 13.009 @ 103.813,When I did my 2 to 3 shift at 5800 I saw the tach go just over 6500 so I have some tranny issues.I go tru the traps @6200.Stock rods,pistons and valve train probably dont like what I am doing.Gotta figure out the soft shifting issue,any ideas welcome.Guzzi Mark

Did you drive the car there and back too?

Also, it would be helpful to see a full listing of your buildup, maybe in the "Slant Sixers" or "Virtual Dragstrip" section?

Trans shift could be band adjustment, or worn clutches?

I'll let you know what I find out on mine. Same flair up on the 2-3. You can hear it on my last videos I posted. Pulled the trans out yest. Dropped it off at an experienced builder rather than tackling it again myself. (I'd like to do it myself but afraid i would make the same mistakes again) Even with a manual VB I still have it. Band adjustment was fine.

I just put mine back in. It did it the last time I had it out as well. I redid the trans and added a 4 disc Direct clutch. I spent a lot of time gettting the clutch pack clearances right. (To the high side of stock spec. ) It dd have some burnt clutches in the forward clutch pack which i think were letting go on the shift at high load. I also made a new govenor to see if I can get it to shoft at 5600 automatically since I have a rail and am so old I am afraid to take my hand off the hand brake handle.Havent rrun it through the automatic shift yet but will soon as I have a test and tune date Saturday.
