I finally got my slant put back together after cleaning up the valves ,and replacing the seals. It seems to be getting 18hg . I think my cruise control has a small leak in it , because the vacuum stopped bouncing a little ,when I capped off the cruise. On to the question, does the air cleaner vacuum port on the carb have constant vacuum? I pulled the hose off of it and had no vacuum coming from it.

Thanks for any replies
Dave

What carb and what port? Ports on the carb can have all vacuum all the time or all vacuum some of the time, depending on their intended function.

Holley 1920,the port that goes to the aircleaner temp sensor.
It is the port on the passanger side up front of the carb.

Yes. That should be a constant vacuum port.

I will check again tommorrow, but I am pretty sure it did not have any .( hopefully I am wrong ).What could be the cause of not haveing any?
The gasket is on correct , the hole that is on the gasket is on the passenger side and to the front of the intake manifold. The carb is new (from Dan) .

If the gasket is installed correctly over the hole in the intake, then you are either on the wrong nipple on the carb or there is a blockage somewhere.

The air cleaner vacuum port on the 1920 is on the driver's side near the bottom, not on the passenger side. Don't know what port you're looking at; refer to Figure 1 in the 1920 manual you linked.

Dan , you are right , and I am a moron for putting down passenger side  . I took the carb off and looked at it ,and found out the reason it did not have any vacuum ,was that it wasn't getting any.
I cut a slit out of the hole( with a razor blade) in the gasket, to open it up to get vacuum , and now it operates the air cleaner flapper as soon as it is cranked up.

Thanks for the help
Dave

I take it that the older intake manifolds have a hole for that ports vacuum, but since mine is newer and had a different carb on it ,that is why it wasn't getting vacuum ,until I cut the slit going to the hole to get vacuum to that port.
Is that right?
