If the system is overcharging, the voltage regulator could be faulty. Have you tried replacing it?

Can't see anything there — your pic is less than an inch tall and about a half inch wide.

The best voltage regulator for the pre-'70 cars is a Standard Ignition #VR-128 or NAPA Echlin #VR-1001. It has a slightly different appearance from the original, but fits and hooks up the same. If you want one identical to original, use Standard #VR-101 or Echlin VR-32

Before you buy anything else, you'll want to buy the books described in this thread to get you up to speed on how the various parts of your car work and how to fix them.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't that a Ford voltage regulator? Looks like someone spliced the plug into the wiring harness. I believe I see e-tape near the plug.

What you can also do is update your system with the newer style voltage regulator is you not a purist. In my van I went to the JY and snagged the alternator, wiring, and reg from a 74? something Mopar and installed it. You'll get a bigger amp alt. and a great charging system. NOW, if you have already upgraded the alt, then just do the reg. and wires. Here's a link with info. Good Luck http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Elec ... arging.htm
