I noticed that my alternator was not charging, after noting that it was charging only a day or two before. It tested bad in an off-the-car test. I replaced it. I still saw no charging. I installed a new regulator. It still isn't charging. The battery holds a charge well when I pump it up with a charger. I don't even know where to start. Suggestions?

With the regulator was a note saying NOT to try to polarize it. I'm not even certain what that means.

I'm a little puzzled by the new alternator. The old one has a heavy output screw terminal near the top and what I assume is the field terminal lug at the bottom. This one also has an upper lug similar to the lower one. Can anyone please explain the extra terminal?

Thanks

RK

The alternator you got, is a "dual Field" unit, for the later cars/trucks. It will work on the early single field wire cars, by conecting the "extra" terminal to ground.
