I am changing an A-100 truck with a 3 speed to a 904 auto. Has
anyone tried this conversion? What type of trans support will
I need? The trans I have has a different tail shaft than the
trans in the truck for support!!
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Craig

A quick question before diving in. Do you know how to weld?

The A904 only has a mounting pad on the bottom of the tailshaft. You'll need to make a big collar that surrounds the tailshaft to put a mount in the same position as the original trans. Or you could fab a new transmission crossmember.

How do you plan on shifting the 904? Aftermarket cable shifter is probably easiest. Unless the 3-speed is the same length as the 904 I'm sure you know you'll be having a new drive shaft made.

BTW, what year is the A100?

I have measured the two trans, and they are of
different lengths. I was just wondering if someone
has made trans supports for these conversions. Yes
I will have to make a new drive shaft.The A 100 is a
1968 with a 225 and has fairly nice body. I will be
doing a complete re-do. Hope to be completed in a
year or so.
Thanks Craig

Craig,
Join the Yahoo A-100 group and you'll find some pics of a conversion using a B-van crossmember tied in to the A-van subframe. Pretty slick install and looked fairly easy.

Craig,
I bought an A100 PU with a /6 and 904. This was a swap done about ten years ago by someone who I don't know. It was pretty slick. The automatic uses the original 3 on the tree shifter for the auto. I'll get some pic as soon as i can.
