Why would a mechanical-lock door need a solenoid? Do you mean the lock cylinder itself?

Ok sounds like you need to hit a wrecking yard and pull the door latch mech and the striker pin.If the door is not closing tight you might still be able to adjust it however if it's been in slam mode for a long time it will take it's toll on the latch and striker. As far as not locking it's possible one or more of the lock rods has pulled out of the plastic clips that hold everything together.Question, does the door droop down when you open it?If you've been having to lift up on the door to get it to close then the hinges are shot and all that lifting and slamming has taken it's toll.Good luck

yeah man i know what you mean ~~i have always been a Dodge vanner myself been thru them over the years ~~this 1987 Dodge B150 van slant six 225 3spd auto is kind of special to me it was my work van when i worked for the phone company , back then they sold them every 3 years i picked it up before it went to auction , i did some contract work out of it and then parked it and just cranked it once in awhile , then stupid me i let it sit for about 3years , i changed all the fluids dumped the tank put air in the tires some gas and it turned right over no problem ~~that slant six is one tough motor so now i am going to rebuild her and bring her back to life ~~~ i hope :D
