I need to get a new 7 1/4 rear end plug, does anyone out there have a current mopar part number for this plug?

also does anyone have an extra plug they are willing to part with?

I soaked mine for 3 days with pentraiting oil, put the breaker bar on it... and it round out... I do have a replacment plate... however thplug that was in it, is in many ways worse than mine... it very rusted... it looks like it was remove with a pipe wrench a few times, and the star shape isnt in that great of shape.....

if anyone help me out let me know... thanx

I saw somewhere that somebody was selling them. Maybe, Year One? They are the same plug as in the Max Wedge Cross-Ram intake manifolds. Anyone else out there know for sure who is selling them?

most american rear ends use standard pipe thread for the plug. It's a 1/2 inch pipe size as I reacall. go to any hardware store (or junk yard) AND get a 1/2' npt pipe male pipe plug

My differential plug has had the star socket boogered badly as well. It looks like the hole is actually 5/8" pipe thread. I am looking at specialty plumbing stores for an appropriate plug. Air conditioning units use more 5/8' sizes than regular plumbing. My plan B is to use the bench grinder to make flat surfaces on the outside of the plug that I can grab with a wrench. My plan C is to attempt to weld a bolt head onto the plug. Plan D is bubble gum for a plug.

Doc sent me one in real good shape.... also I do now have 2 (which i have welded heads on so you can use a regular wrench on....) however I do not have the washers..... you may have one for the cost of shipping....

That would be great. I need to get back with my plumber friend and see if he has since found something. Is the plug a 5/8" or thereabouts? How do you want me to go about paying you? Thanks.

Well let me see if I can find where I put them. and I will let you know. I can you tell you it is fine SAE threads, and it is no tappered like most plugs would be. I'm not sure of the size.

Also I looked at Lowes and home depot, and this supply place. They didnt have anything to fit it. I was told by my bestfriend which is the hardware manger at one of the stores, I would have to goto a Bolt and Fastern store to find it.

You probably already know this, but a 1/2"NPT pipe plug is actually larger than 1/2". That is the inside diameter not outside. If you get yours out, get a plug with a square, external head on it rather than an internal type, its easier to get a crescent wrench on it and it is less likely to round out.

Actually, I got the plug out and also removed the entire cover. I took the cover to the Home Depot and a 1/2" plug is too small but a 3/4" is too large. That's why I believe it is 5/8" The bolt idea is also a good one. I can go to the bolt place in town and get something to fit and then grind off the end so it doesn't interfere with the gear movement. Thanks everyone.

Well if you can weld or you know someone who can... have them weld a hex head on the plug.... thats what i did too these 2 I have... if I can find one of them you can still have one of mine if you wish...

Does anyone know the size of the wrench/socket/star that fits the plug for the 7 1/4 diff? I thought an allen head would fit, but i tried a few, and they would not. The plug has 9 points, so it's not a torx. Any suggestions? The plug is in fine shape, with no stripping-out problems.
