Hi all,
Just wanted to know if I need a different exhaust manifold with a /6 2bbl intake or can I use my 1bbl exhaust manifold. Got a couple in my sights but need to know if I have to get a different exhaust manifold too. Thanks

No but... The exhaust manifolds will ALL work. You may run into choke pocket issues so an electric choke may be in your future.

They are the same, good luck getting them apart. Soak the bolts with PB blaster for a whole before trying to remove them.

Thanks for the input. Trying to find out how many more parts I need(carb, exhaust, linkage) to get this working and keep my outlay down. I think with some good pics, we can fabricate the linkage since I manage a machine shop. Once again, thanks.

See this post. If you've got a machine shop, you needn't even buy a 2bbl intake; you can readily modify your 1bbl intake, which in turn makes the linkage easier and eliminates the need for a shorter throttle cable, and allows you to put a plenum divider in the intake.

Guess who comes through again? Dan thank you for the fine advice. Being someone that likes to see my own workmanship in things, I love that idea. I thought about an adapter plate but wondered if I would have any serious flow issues but actually it sounds as good if not better with all the other issues that I would avoid.

I made my own two barrel intake out of a one barrel intake and there is one important issue- the area of the carb mounting portion of the manifold. The carb mounting area on the one barrel intake manifold is *barely* wide enough to fit a two barrel carb (even the "small" two barrels such as the Carter BBD or Holley 2280) when the carb is mounted in the factory perpendicular fashion. When I modified a one barrel intake, I put the carb in the standard perpendicular fashion and I barely had enough room to clear the inboard manifold stud. It actually protruded slightly into the area below the throttle bore of the carb. Mounting the carb parallel to the motor would solve this problem.

When I did mine I machined the stock manifold flat, so the Holley 2bbl plate would sit flat. The carb is mounted sideways.

PS: this combo ran quicker then an Clifford manifold with a 2bbl adapter plate. Granted, I didn't try rejetting the carb, just a bolt for bolt change.

I ground the pad flat with a hand-held grinder. I'm sure getting it machined properly is better. Interesting that it worked better than Clifford's! I would be interested to see how a modified stock intake with a plenum divider would do.

Carb's not supposed to sit flat. It's supposed to sit tilted towards the front, 'cause as installed, the manifold is tilted towards the back. Measure the factory tilt of the 1bbl mounting pad, write it down, and set up the 2bbl mounting pad at the same angle.

I said "flat", not "Level". :P A carb will not necessarily be level on the manifold (it should be level on the car, as installed),

I said flat, and I meant level! I didn't do a very accurate or thorough job building my intake, and if I did it again I would be much more accurate. Listen to Charlie and Dan, not me!
