It has crossed my mind. It sits the same height as the muffler so it should be OK.

Yeah, on level ground it does. Kills the approach angle though.

sorry if i missed it. but what sort of RPM's
through the traps.

I read last night on ALLPAR back in the day a stock 170 would wine to 6500 RMP using a 3 speed and the man stated there was more to go..that's impressive in those days.

I got a few things done today. Main studs are in, o-ringed the block, degreed cam in at 109*, checked cam and bearing wear, trimmed copper head gasket. Ready for the head and possible new exhaust. We'll see. Isky o-ring tool worked nice.

Does the iksy O ring tool Work with the pistons in place?

I would imagine it would be a chore to keep the chips out of the ring pack?

Oily/greasy rags and vacuums are your friends. Can't tell you how many holes I've drilled and bore notches I've made with everything assembled. My favorite was drilling a new hole in a spun rear cam bearing with the motor in the car and just the head off. No problems...

A shop vac is your best friend. I did the Isly o-ring in car as well. Like Lou said....plug everything up that you can and then vac away!!!...If you have a helper they could vac while you cut away.

I've port matched in the car this way too.

What is the black circle in the center of the pistons?
What is the last picture showing, Main clearance?

Not for certain what the machined holes are in the center of the pistons. Never seen them before on any others. They are standard TRW's. Anyone know? I guess I should have figured this out before I started using them.

Yes to the main clearance. All four were the same.
