Hi every one this is my first post.
My name is james and i am currently restoring a 1968 charger, and have enjoyed every minute of doing it.
I will be posting soon some pictures of my super six from my 33,000 original miles that is in a 1979 volare.
The car is all original and in perfect condition.
I'm sure i will enjoy this slant 6 forum.

Welcome to the site! You know, the engine in your Charger has two extra cylinders. You need to yank that thing and put in a slant six! 8)

Welcome!

I'm with Reed on this one. I've never seen or heard of anybody crazy enough to put a slant six in a 2nd gen Charger (apart from the stock ones that came in 1970) so I'm sure you would be harolded as the king of "unusual". 8)

Like my comrades, I can envision the slant six under the hood of just about any vehicle. However, if the 383 in yer Charger is running good, I would probably leave it in place. Besides that, variety is sometimes a good thing. Driving a V8 once in awhile will make you appreciate the slant six, and vice-versa.
With that thought in mind, does EVERY T-bucket/hot rod/street rod/etc. HAVE to have a 350 smallblock?!? Nothing against the 350 mind you, but I'm just saying.
Okay, before I forget, WELCOME TO THE SITE!
And I do mean "The Site". 8) 8) 8)

My daily ride is a '78 Volare coupe with a 225 by the way.

I would Never think of replacing my 383 with a slant 6. Reed was just making a joke about that. lol

I was joking somewhat too... Believe me, if I had a roller 2nd Gen Charger and a spare slant six bolted to a four-speed, they would meet each other sooner or later. 8)

But since your car already has an engine, the 383 is excellent. My Dad had a Plum Crazy Purple 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner with a 383 and a pistol grip four-speed back in the late '70s. He loved that car, he always figured he'd have another someday...

Actually, I'm serious. With gas prices going ever upward, if you want to actually drive the Charger every day, I say pull the 383 engine and trans, put them on a stand under a tarp, and drop in a warmed over slant. It's not like you will ever be able to really enjoy what the 383 has to offer anyway. Unless you live someplace like Montana or Arizona.

I also have a 1972 duster with a slant six, i will be restoring that next.

Welcome to the forum, 383charger. I really love the slant six, but I've had this disease since I was a little boy; I cannot help stopping in my stride whenever I hear the throaty roar of a high comp V8...8)
