My mechanic said my shackle collar bracket is rusting apart on my right rear suspension. Anyone know where I might find one of these? Thanks.

By the looks of the pictures, I'm thinking the rear shock mount. All I know is he said shackle collar bracket or something to that effect. I'll clarify with him to make sure. Thanks for the site info.

I'm not sure if it is the right name, but the shackle only touches two things-the spring's rear eye and a bracket that bolts to the car. This bracket is bolted up to a boxed section on the rear outboard frame area by two 3/8 coarse bolts and has a tube section between two abbreviated triangles.

Either the bracket or the frame section could be the problem but I think that's definitely what his mechanic is talking about. Mine are spaced out a little to get a good shackle angle.

Oh and I got extras before by posting on here and moparts and bigblockdart and forabodiesonly and stuff like that. A new part could easily be made from the old one for not that much money or time if you are skilled or know a weldor.

True, one can make a patch for the perch for less. However, if that section of the frame is rusted to the point the bolt is no longer held in its proper location, the surrounding material in that section of frame is most likely weak some distance away from the visible problem area.

The reason I like these “Safe-T-Capsâ€￾ is this [url=http://www.autorust.com/safetcap.html] outfit[/url] has fixed a million more old rusty Mopars & other old heaps than I have ever seen in the last forty years, and know from experience how far away from a rusted-out area one generally needs to go the make a strong, safe, with properly located attachment points, long lasting repair. To me it is money well spent to take advantage someone else’s experience & expertise.

This area of the frame experiences a complicated set of dynamic forces being exerted while under way, and must be strong to resist these forces. If the shackle is not located precisely in relation to its opposite twin on the other side of the car you will experience drivability quirks. If a repair is not strong enough, one will be under the car repairing the repair, which can make a still bigger mess of things…
