Has anyone done this before? What kind of donor car can I get the parts from and what parts do I need?

There's a kit available from Wilwood that's supposed to be fairly light-weight, but I don't know how much it costs. I'm doing a swap to discs for my 64 valiant right now using all of the suspension and brake bits from a 76 duster. Rather than restating everything I'm doing, you could take a look at what Rob (?) has to say on the subject at http://users.rcn.com/alokaeng/Techhelp. ... and%20Swap He's got a decent write-up of what you'll need.

There's several options for this. There's aftermarket kits. There's several different ways of adapting junkyard discs - either the '72-earlier conversion (needs the ball joints and everything in between from a disc car) or the '73-up conversion (same, but also needs the upper control arms). With the '73-up hardware, you will have the large bolt pattern, which allows a wider selection of wheels but means you'll have to swap the rear bolt pattern too. There are a few mix-and-match options using taller F/M/J body spindles or the late '70s B-body 11.75" discs and caliper brackets on post-'73 spindles, too.

Think i'll piggyback on this post as iv'e had it with the stock 63 ball joints and tie rods, tired of replacing them every two years and a conversion would be a relief. Guess you can tell what I did on my days off. ...thanks for the information guys...Dave

This is an excellent book that pulls together the junkyard approach to doing a disk type conversion.

You should also check out a good brake article ("Disc-o tech"??) at www.moparaction.com
