TIMING - OKAY, FUEL - OKAY, COMPRESSION - OKAY, SPARK PLUGS GETTING ELECTRIC - OKAY.

Okay, we have the timing at TDC right after the compression. The spark plugs go off okay. Fuel is going in okay. Compression on cyl 1 is 150. So if we have the timing electric, fuel, and compression okay, what possibly could we be missing?

It has a Pertronix II Ignitor, but like I said, the plugs get spark.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Sometimes you just have to pat the valve cover while whispering kind words...

Are you sure the spark is powerful enough? Have you done some work to the engine or car recently that may have upset something?

I put an offy intake and Clifford headers on the car. After starting it, it sounded like the timing was off. So I messed with the distributor by putting the rotor one over, and tried that, and he wouldn't start. So did it the other way, and the same. So I put it back where it was, and didn't start. I had a friend come over today, and he made sure it was at TDC. He said the spark looks great. The coil is a hot one.

Are you SURE the TDC you have is on the compression stroke of # 1 cylinder? There are 2 revolutions for every TDC compression on # 1. Is it possible you are using the exhaust TDC ?
If everything else is as you say, then he should go.
The only other thing I can think of,is a really big vacuum leak in your new intake somewhere, and too lean to start. You could try splashing a spoonful or 2 of gas down the carb and see if it will fire then.

regards,Rod. :?

Before I had my buddy helping me, I opened the valve cover, and brought the timing mark to 0. I took out the spark plug, and felt the piston. At this point, both valves were shut. As I slowly advanced the crankshaft, the exhaust valve started opening.

My buddy on the other hand, put a compression tester on Cylinder 1, and turned the crank until he saw the compression on the tester, and then slowly turned it to 0.

I will try that fuel down the carb. Thanks.

Well, it looks like the timing is correct. I poured some fuel in the carb, and it fired right up. But once it burned that fuel, dead. So I waited a minute, and then pumped the carb to get more fuel in there, and then tried to start it. It started again, with a huge blast of fire coming out of the carb, and it ran until it burned that fuel. Making progress now.

But now I have to check out the carb and intake manifold I guess.
