Can i purchase special triangular shaped washers and conical washers anywhere?

Does anybody have a picture of the orientation of the counter weight arm on plenum heat door?

Should all of the fastners be studs or are some bolts that hold the intake/exhaust to the cylinder head?

Thank You

I haven't found the triangle washers anywhere new and I've looked pretty extensively. I would try ebay or junk yards. There were two thicknesses made so make sure you have the right ones for your stud length (all studs btw). Check out this article for thorough information about installing a slant manifold set.

Page isn't loading for me now but try

www.pentastarparts.com.au/sunshop

or www.valiantspares.com.au

I've seen alot on ebay.

I think it's better to have studs. Someone put a bolt into the water jacket part of the head so when I removed the manifolds coolant everywhere. Wouldn't happen with the stud.

Hi husker, I have some numbers and links for you.

The Mopar part numbers are: triangle washer is p/n 3751 636, the two brass plano-concave washers p/n 3751 637(or 6), central steel cone washer p/n 2121 223 superseded to p/n 5301 0091. Whether they are still available, I don't know.

The manifold to cylinder head 5/16-18-24 x 1.88 studs, can be bought from silver-seal.com.
They also have steel nuts, see lower on the same page.(They have new exhaust manifolds, too.)

Brass nuts are Dorman part # 680-001 or # 849-001 (single/bulk pack).

You can also follow this link to plated steel conical washers, and this link to AN310 Castellated Nut. 5/16-24, both from pegasusracing.com. They are not exactly like the original, but can be used.

You should also take a look at these links before bolting all together:
Good-sealing intake-to-exhaust gaskets FINALLY available, as well as the best Slant Six manifold to cylinder head gasket from remflex.com.

You should also check out these forum links:
Manifold Mounting Hardware and Intake/Exhaust stud specs? and Exhaust manifold fastener, using the forum's search function should also give a LOT of info on the subject.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Olaf.

Not to be contradictory Olav but here is my experience.

Don't waste your time with the" Good Sealing Intake to Exhaust gaskets Finally Available" Link....., AKA GPRS AKA MrMopar Dot Com. I waited for a month after I sent $$ and they never shipped it nor did they answer any of my e mail attempts to see what's up. Even a kindly gentlemen in their town tried to contact them for me. After a week or so of calling he finally got a live person that said "we'll look into it". Nice huh? :? The exact same gasket is available from a gentleman here on /6..org.... 66aCuda, Frank Rasso. I had it within four or five days of ordering......

As far as the conical washers(the brass ones on each end of the exhaust manifold), it appears to me that the ones I have taken off old slants are not conical at all but have a straight cut ID that is just big enough for the castellated nut to fit in and then compress the tabs of the nut before the hex part comes into contact. Problem is, when you go to yank them off an old slant you will get the stud and brass round shim with it. The castellated nut locks on to the stud ( and at times the brass shim) really really good. :o McMaster has round brass shims in various sizes that will do the trick and aircraft parts companies have some nuts that come close. SSD's idea of getting an acorn nut, grinding off the cap and then cutting a few slots would likely work.

.

I got a set of the triangular washers off ebag a few years ago but have not seen them since. Salvage yard is your best bet for those.

Don't quote me on this but I believe the conical center washer is still available.

Hope this helps

61 V200: Sorry to hear you had a bad experience trying to get the gaskets. I ordered them and had them delivered by air mail in a couple of days time, from the other side of the world, no trouble at all. I thought those guys were the supplier of the gaskets that Frank sell?

Please take a look at these lock nuts from McMaster-Carr, called Two-Piece Thread-Clamping Locknuts. I wonder if they could do the job instead of the castellated nuts, in fact they are kind of a reversed castellated nut solution. Crazy price, though!

(when I checked the link above, you have to scroll down the page a little, and then click on the Two-Piece Thread-Clamping Locknuts, there's javascript for you!)

I really don't know if the original castellated nuts will allow for some movement, or if they were chosen only because they were a clever, low price locking nut solution at the time, while being able to stand up to heat and vibration. If the lock function is the main object, the two-piece nuts could be interesting to try, they should be easy to torque correctly, and then lock.

I think there is a quite recent post confirming that the triangular washers are available new from Mopar dealers too.

Olaf.

Also sorry to hear about your dealings with GPRS 61 V200.

I have to say at this point that I've ordered directly from GPRS twice and was amazed both times by the speed and cost of delivery, from Aus to the UK. Always got the parts in under a week - I can't even get that from other parts of the UK most of the time! Last time was about six months ago. They were also very good on communication with me.

Just had to put down my experience with them.

I've also dealt with Frank Rasso in the past, he managed to get me a set of pushrods and some valve cover gaskets/seals sent and they arrived here in record time also.

As for the fasteners, I believe there are a few posts about that state the triangular washers are available from Chrysler, but if that is the case, then they are the only part of the hardware available. In addition to the triangular washers, the conical washers and castellated nuts need to be had.

Junkyards are probably the best bet, or try putting a wanted ad on the board - that's how I got mine!

So, obviously no movement from the troublesome GPRS after my phone call to them.
BTW, I am not in their town - I am about 130 miles to the west.

!
I just called my local dealer, and was told there are 10 washers left in the system. The price is $3.xx each.
I have a few "parts pkg", that include a full set of (11)triangle washers, (2) brass "end washers", and (2)"end nuts". There is also a small spring (I think for the heat control valve) and a hex head nut with washer attatched (I think for the intake to exhaust stud). These are NOS. If interested PM me.

I'm no MBA but it seems to me they could set up a distributor in the US. At the least add Frank to their webiste and then they can let him deal with the little fish like me! I can't imagine the profit on the part I ordered would be any more than $7 or $8. I sorta, kinda, just a little, understand why my order was not a priority.

Comments on the Two-Piece Thread-Clamping Locknuts a.k.a. drake-style locknuts, anyone?

Olaf.

I saw those a few weeks back when I was in the McMaster-Carr book.

That first section looks narrow in the picture.

Might want to use it in conjunction with a brass shim that has a narrower ID than stock.

I finally managed to get one (OEM nut) off a stud at the salvage yard.

Just need to hit it with the torch and seperate it from the brass shim.

Thanks for the info you posted, Olaf. Very thorough and useful. However, the "Exhaust manifold fastener" link you posted appears to be broken. I tried Googling it and clicking it, but I got the same error message. It may answer my question, which is this: is it advisable to replace the stud that fastens the two manifolds together if I still have the old one? I got the old one off just fine and it's not near as brittle and pitted as the two bolts (thought I'd found some matches for those at Napa, but the threads were slightly too short). I plan on checking with Copper State Nut and Bolt and Granger (local) after the holiday weekend, but thought I'd ask everybody's input in the meantime.

Husker1, I have extra: a complete set of butterfly washers (10), one castellated nut, and two brass washers (kinda gunked up due to improper installation - could be salvaged). No center conical washer, though. If you're still looking for these, I'll set you up with them for a fellow Slant Sixer price plus a Cornhusker discount.
