It seems that NHRA Tech is cracking down on front wheel shank style closed top lug nuts. Sacramento Raceway is looking for OPEN end shank lug nuts with stud threads showing when using Centerline type wheels.
My problem is I can't find a supplier of 2 1/2" long 7/16x20 front studs for my 64 Dart. I'm still using the stock 9" SBP drums.
Summit has the open end shank nuts but no studs. Help needed

Dorman and ARP do not show any long studs with a .558" knurl. That is the A-Body front stud size.

Sounds like you'll probably need to buy a big drill bit along with studs having the next larger size knurl.

You could always get some threaded rod and screw it into the lug nut so it looks like you have long studs...............

The rule is that the stud has to extend into the hex part of the open lug nut at least the diameter of the stud. That means that the stud has to be at least 7/16th into the hex, it does not have to extend past the lug nut.

Moroso used to make studs for the small knurl Mopars.

I just installed a Moroso set in my 64 Dart. I had purchased them from Summit a while back, but I'm pretty sure they're still available.

.560 Knurl. 10 for $26@Summit. Moroso states for standard hole size .552-.559. A-Body hole is .558.

Job completed today. On one drum the stock studs just pressed out easily, the other drum studs had been stamp-expanded on the outer drum face side and required grinding the expanded metal off to allow easy press removal. I used a 3" length of 1" galvanized pipe as the hollow stand to press the back side of the stud through. I had to grind a slight angle to the top of the pipe to match the contour of the hub.
The Moroso long studs pressed in smoothly with some grease on the knurl first. They required some extra pressing to straighten them up to fit the Centerline bolt pattern uniformly. Suggest you take a wheel and the sleeve open-end lugs with you to be sure all new long studs are seated properly.
It is comforting to know we are NHRA legal.
