Hi everyone. I have a carter 1bbl bbs on my 225 /6 from a 71 valiant. I need the throttle linkage since the previous carb was a holley 1bbl and it hooks up quite different. So does anyone know what the linkage looks like or even a link to a site to purchase it from?

Was the carter BBS stock on a 71? I know my 63 had one (with the shaft-type linkage It had a U-shaped bracket on the end of the throttle shaft that connected to the gas pedal via rods & levers),& I recall once seeing a Rochester 1 bbl on a 68 Dart (throttle cable), but I thought in the 70's A-bodies you only had the Holley 1920 , then later replaced by the Holley 1945 (also throttle cable types). I'd imagine the 2bbl "export" /6 also used a cable, like the later super six.

You have the wrong carburetor if the linkage doesn't fit. The linkage is year dependent (and with/without AC on '66 and earlier cars) rather than carburetor make dependent.

Yes, the BBS was factory-installed on some 1971 slant-6 engines in passenger cars, trucks, and vans. 1971 was its last year in US/Canada passenger cars, 1974 in US/Canada trucks and vans, later than that in export applications. 1973 was the last year of the Holley 1920, 1974 was the first year of the Holley 1945, and as J. Skinner says, the throttle linkage configuration is mostly dependent on year and application, not carburetor make.

Darrylekg, let's have some photos of the carb you're trying to make work in your '71. Where did you get it?

If the rod linkage bracket could be unbolted from the throttle shaft lever, you might be able to install a stud from another carb (Holley,Carter) so the cable can be attached, or it may require the removal of it and drilling an appropriate hole so a pin can be inserted to hold the cable like the late cars have.

Definately going to take some modification and thinking to make this work and work correctly.

Next most fun question is your car an automatic?

Yep its automatic. So that means the kickdown will be an issue too right?

You're trying to use a '60-'66 A-body carburetor on a '67-up car. Won't work. You might be able to hack it, but it'll be halfassed. Get a correct carburetor for the car; looks like you've got all the right linkage pieces and just the wrong carb.

So I pulled apart the Holley 1920 which was on the car previously and was able to swap out the throttle from the Carter. Now everything is bolted up correctly. Worked out pretty good.

Uh…how exactly did you do that? The throttle shaft from a Holley carburetor does not fit on a Carter carburetor.

Yahbut, that doesn't interchange, either. Neither does the throttle body.

I'm asking for more than curiosity's sake; if the original poster has cobbled it together, it may seem to work OK but could easily fail with catastrophic results (suddenly can't open throttle; car is dead in traffic…can't close throttle, car is an uncontrolled missile…)

I'm curious as well...It didn't look like the rod linkage part could be unbolted from the lever like the 70's Holley 1920 Economaster I have.
That's why I asked as well...

Sorry I haven't checked this thread in a few days so I didn't notice the new posts. I assure you the way everything was put together on the carb was perfect. The Carter is already on the intake manifold so I won't unbolt it just for pictures sake. But I will take pictures of the new setup from the outside of the Carter and much more detailed pics of the Holley and the pieces missing. I think that should clear it up. Sorry if my wording is choppy I'm posting this with my iPhone. Pics will be up tomorrow.
