Is the 7 1/4 rear axle worth using for a t-bucket project?
I have a set of 3.55 gears for one and all new bearings brakes seals etc.
What will it handle horspower wise? should I leave the carrier open so it can spin freely instead of putting more stress on it using a posi traction setup. I have a 225 with nitrided crank, medium Isky cam, four barrel, four speed, msd multispark.

Gulp... you said the "F" word... Four speed trans.
Dump the 7 1/4 and find something bigger.
If you really want to try it, put a clutch style limited slip into it, (if you can find one) doing that will make the unit a little stronger.

Agree with Doc. Don't try a 7 1/4 without a clutch type suregrip (4 spider gears). I would also stay away from the 7 1/4 with a stick.
I am running a 3.91 7 1/4 SG in a 13 sec drag car, but it is an auto trans and doesn't "shock" the rear.

I have a Dana 60 with 4.11 gearset, if I made a spline adapter and welded the tubes on from the 7 1/4, do you suppose the axle shafts would hang in there.

I came up with the idea because the Dana is a full floater from a 73 POWER WAGON and I have all new parts for the 7 1/4
