Anyone know how much a 7 1/4 rear weighs? Just the rear no brakes/backing plates. Think its under 100 lbs?

Depends on BBP or SBP and a few other things (diff type), but I'd say 105 lbs would be close with no brakes or backing plates at all.

Its a SBP open 3.23. Greyhound has a 100 lb weight limit,im hoping it is at that or a little lighter.

I just put my old one on the bathroom scale, ( I took it from the bathroom...), and it read 111.5lbs. It is compleat minus all of the brake hardware except backing plates, slave cyls and brake lines plus a bit of road grime.

SBP 2.76 out of my '68 Dart

I think Dart270 is just about right. Might be able to drop a few more lbs if it was drained of all the gear lube, but it will be right at 100+lbs without any "packaging"

Well, it was not "that much" labor, it is still in the drive way, right where I left it. If they are that precise on the weight, maybe pull one or both axles and ship separate..??

Could do that, its all up to the seller and how much work he wants to do for me on a cheap part like that. Shipping is going to cost$$$ I am trying to get a "cheap" upgrade, its already starting to add up :?

Anyone know how much more the 8.25 weighs over the 7.25? Is the difference enough to affect fuel economy, performance our handling in an early A-body?

Pull the axle shafts, backing plates and drain the oil, then they are around 80 lbs.
Have the user reuse his current axles and brake assemblies... or ship them in a seperate package.
