I would like to try and modify a small or big block scattershied to fit a slant six. I wondered if any else had tried this and had some sugestions or advice

Contact member Dart 270 (Lou). He has an adapter plate specifically for putting a Lakewood small block scattershield on a Slant.

I have a small block Lakewood if you're interested.

Quick Time was going to make a shield for a Slant. Not sure if they ever did or not.

I have a Quick Time safety bellhousing, but haven't installed it yet. There is no provision for a Z-bar so it's fab a bracket or go hydraulic.

The one thing about using a Lakewood, you do have to use a 130 tooth flywheel. A V-8 one will work if you enlarge one bolt hole.

I did this on my slant. When I do it again I will use a 440 bellhousing. The 340 pattern lays on the slant bolts so I had to go with some countersunk bolts which makes it a little harder. It can be done, and I have not seen Lou's adapter. I had Mcload make me a 340 flywheel with a slant 6 flange. That lets you use almost any clutch combo. I used the green cover mopar hemi pressure plate with a carbon fiber disk. I sold my set up to Ron in MA for his lancer. Not sure if he has installed it. You also need a starter that does not use a nose support. ? you can PM me. Stan

Hi Stan! What headers were you using? The smallblock bell puts the starter in the low position.

Pretty sure Ron is running yours in the car now.

It mounted right in the stock location above the pan. That is why you need the starter. I tried to build a pocket for the stock starter nose but I could not get it right in my backyard machine shop. If you use a no nose starter it just has to align with the flywheel and your set. Mine was a Tilton but they are commonly called import diesel starters. I was running the Hooker race headers, 2 part headers, front and rear. I had the most trouble with the z-bar not the starter or bellhousing.

I have one of the aluminum adapters that Mark Goodman made up also. It just removes the front scattershield plate and replaces it with the 1/4" aluminum plate with the slant pattern. He did a great job on it and sent me all the countersunk bolts...etc.

When I install mine I am pretty sure that my long tube Clifford's are going to be a problem around that low starter. That is why I was wondering what you used. My car is a 65 Valiant also. Thanks for the info.

it would be easy to move a starter up. just mount a stock bellhousing and transfer the pattern to the adapter. good luck with your project
