Might be interesting to mention a little about your set up, carb, cam, gearing, distributor work, vehicle, etc.

I posted the lowest I get (22 - 22.9) due to all the local driving I have been doing. Mostly short hops of 4 to 8 miles and an occasional 16 miles run with no freeway driving.

Currently I am running a bone stock 1979 engine that had been sitting in a barn for 10 years which was covered in hay missing the carb, fuel pump, distributor and dipstick for $125. I installed it as is, filled it with Mobile 1 0-30W synthetic oil and have been driving it the last few years while my good 9.5 to 1 engine gets some upgrades.

As far as set ups I run the SL6 hot. 195 degree stat and a stock 18" wide radiator with a 16 pound cap. Quick warm ups are a must. The intake must warm up quickly and stay warm. I do not run a stock fan which blows on the intake constantly. Instead I run two electric fans which rarely turn on unless I am in traffic. The second item is the heat deflector which also keeps the intake manifold warm. I was lucky to find a Holley 1920 Economaster from a taxicab which atomizes much better at low rpms. I also run a very fast distributor curve which makes the SL6 feel like there is more power. It stops at about 52 degrees advance. To keep it from pinging I run colder UR4 NGK plugs. As a result I don't have to push it very hard since it is so punchy and peppy.

My car is a 74 Dart Swinger (heavy 3300 lbs.) with a 2.76 ratio 8 3/4 Sure-grip.

The exhaust is mostly 2.5" running a Flowmaster 70. At the manifold it starts out at 2.25" for a few feet then steps up to 2.5".

Tires are 26" tall Toyo Eclipse P215 70R series. Transmission gear in the 904 is a 28 tooth. Cruise at 50 mph is 2000 to 2200 rpm, 2500 at 60 mph.

I just checked this out Friday when I made a bomber mission to and from Sacramento.

1967 Plymouth Valiant two-door 225 2 bbl / 4 speed / 3.23 8 1/4

I got 22.xx MPG turning 3200 rpm pretty much the whole way!

Need to get an overdrive into this thing and fix the seeping gas tank and it should go up more!! 8)

Made seven passes at Redding. Used 1-1/2" - 2" of 110 Purple out of the 8 gallon fuel cell. Not bad.

Out on the road it gets about 20 on a mix of premium and race gas. As long as I keep out of the thottle when pulling hills, I can run pump gas, but I'm not very good at keeping my foot out of it.

Not going to vote, cause I haven't done a quantitative mileage computation for a couple years.

I didn't even vote cuz mine isn't up there. Checked it yesterday after putting 200 miles on my tank, avg, 12mpg. Only mods are a 2.5" exhaust and hei ignition. The throttle bushings leak though and I drive up a big hill every day to work. No OD either. I've gotten anywhere from 11-19 mpg in my truck depending on how well it's running.

Since the speedometer and odometer is off by 20 % due to the replacement rear end- after correcting for the errors I get around 17.5 mpg in town driving around 30-40 mph and trips of 5-20 miles.Thats running 75w90 in the A 833,235/75r15 and mineral 10w30.Air temp between 45 and 70 Carter bbd from a 318 with the choke disconnected and a stock 74 electronic distributor at 6 degrees of timing and GM HEI .On the one and only road trip it got somewhere around 24 mpg in the lower portion of NM/west Texas in 100 degree heat.
