If it ain't one problem its another..... Got the car home and it just dies. After lots of checking and testing, more checking.... The motor turns, but the distributor doesn't.... OK time for a new gear. But the damned thing won't come out!!! I think the roll pin backed out and is holding the distributor in the block!

Anyone know if an easy way to get it out without tearing the motor down????

Try rotating the motor as you or someone else pulls on the distributer. It might be the pin is in the cam gear

Nah, I can pull the distributor out juuuuuust far enough that I can rotate the shaft if I cock the housing a bit.

Ill see if I can yank like hell on it and shear the pin tomorrow.

All of them I have seen are roll pins, it should bend or maybe break if it breaks don't worry about the part that goes into the pan.

GOT IT! I wiggled the hell out of it and that pushed the roll pin in far enough to clear the block. The gear was shredded pretty bad.

No one had a drive gear in stock, so I paid the 60 bucks for a whole new unit that Napa listed for a 76 Duster/Dart. Had my 7 year old bump the ignition for me to get it to TDC, and timed it by ear. She seems to be running way better with this new distributor in! ALLOT snappier! I wonder what advance weights and springs are in it?

Did you have to give the old distributer for a core?

There was an 11 dollar core on it, but I figure ill keep it and order a new gear for it. Then keep it in the trunk as a spare.

Good plan and you have the original curve (springs) :)
