Hi again

Im just wondering, on a standard factory slant six equipped with Holley 1920, what keeps the throttle lever (and butterfly) in the closed position? I would imagine some kind of spring? If so, where should this spring be connected to?

Here is my current setup (see the spring on the right)



I do not have the well type choke thermostat there at the moment but soon i will, so where should I connect the spring to then (i mean as per factory)?

You're missing the throttle spring bracket.

I think I might have two, as well as some old Holley and Carter one barrel thermostatically assisted choke pulloff coil assemblies. I need to go dig around in my parts stash.

Note the pictured throttle spring bracket is a later variety, not the more vertical type that would have come on Syed's '66. The later horizontal spring bracket requires a spring with an extended hook/leg as shown in Reed's photo, not the type shown in Syed's photo.

I probably DO have an extra long-legged spring.

I found these while I was rooting around in one of my parts bins in my attic:



The throttle spring bracket on the far left is the one i posted a picture of before. The second throttle return spring bracket looks like it is another late version that has had the leg cut off and the spring loop arm bent a bit. The thermostatically assisted choke pulloff assembly looks like it is for an early carb with the closed well, but I don't know if it is a Holley or a Carter. Unfortunately, it looks as if the rod for the choke linkage has ben bent out o its original shape.

I might have more parts squirreled away, but I need time to dig them out.

The simplest solution is for you to bend up a piece of metal, bolt it to the motor, and run a spring from the carb to the piece of metal.

If so, anyone has this? or maybe a well-type choke thermostat for pre-'73 as well? anyone?

Anyway, I managed to make a quick make-shift bracket for temporary use, until I can get the correct one. Obviously this would not work with the choke thermostat in place...

If anyone here has one on their motor, and dont mind taking it off (or can measure in situ) and give me a rough measurement... I would be greatly appreciated. Looks simple enough that I can locally fabricate here.
