My 67 Valiant had a flat tire about a week ago, so i took it in to the tire place. They repaired the flat but left the spare on. They told me the lug nuts have been tighten onto the wheel so many times that the holes are starting to wear through. So my wheel is getting worn out? can i use the wheel with it like this?

I haven't had any luck finding a replacement for the old 13in wheel.

I've read on the forum about updating to 14in wheels and tires, but the tire stores tell me they don't have anything that fits the bolt pattern measurement on the 67 val.
What size bolt pattern am i looking for?

Has anyone dealt with this recently? Am i going to be able to get new wheels and tires from a tire center? or am i going to have to dig them up used?

The bolt pattern is 5-on-4, that is five lugs on a 4-inch circle. Wheels with the 4" bolt circle are harder but not impossible to find. 14" wheels will be a MUCH better choice than 13"; they will open up your tire (and brake upgrade) options considerably, though if you're considering upgrading the brakes you ought to think seriously about going to the much more common 4½" bolt circle.

Used wheels with small bolt pattern are drying up (getting hard to find). You might check and see what this guy has. Or check www.car-part.com (searchable used auto parts); search 1967 Plymouth Valiant wheel. You can constrain the search to your local area.

Make up your mind and proceed quickly; driving on a spare tire is begging for a blowout and likely more/worse. Tires don't wear while sitting in the trunk, but they do age and degrade. Most of us with spare tires more than a few years old have spare tires that are marginally safe for a short drive to get a new tire, and not more than that.

ya, I'm moving to Vancouver, WA this weekend is part of the problem. That's not too far from Salem! But ya, unfortunately i should fix this problem before cruisin' down there.

So now i'm looking for 14inch rims with 5bolt 4inch pattern.

I found the American Racing outlaw ii at summit racing. Looks like a 5 bolt 4" pattern.

Will a 14x7" wheel fit a 205/70r14 tire? and will that fit under my car?

We've got a 205/75 R14 studded snow on a 7 inch aftermarket rim fitting under a 65 dart rear. Installation does require jacking up the body(rather than the rear axle) to get the tire in an under between the brake drum & wheel housing.

Haven't tried this in the front however where we have a 185/75 studded snow on the 4.5 stock rims..DonPal

I ran those wheels for years on my 64 and 68 Darts with 215/60-14s and 225/60-14s. Worked great. Make sure they are at least 4" backspacing, no less. 4.5" would be ideal. Mine were 4" backspace. 225s were a bit wide for that car and rim under some driving circumstances...

For my money, I'd convert the car to BBP all around (with discs in front), and get some 15s or bigger rims. Wayyyy more tire choice if you move away from 14". At one point, I probably had 4 sets of "mag" and rallye SBP rims in 14". Sold em all about 8 yrs ago.

Thanks for the help.

The professionals at ALL the tire places in Bellingham were helpless. If anybody else tackles this project, it's best to do all your own thinking.
