I would like to get the correct kit for my 64 and down bbs. Its got several numbers on the top, body, and base. The top has a 6-1543 and the body and base have different numbers but similar layout.

I found a old "carter" kit but unsure if that's of good quality and if its even right for mine

No tag on a bowl screw? You just have to guess. Most carb kits have gaskets that cover multiple years. Save your old gaskets to match with the new ones.

That's the way of the BBD and BBS world.

I have no tag went on that daytona parts and it first comes up with 1 kit # from 60-71. I click that number. Then it shows 2 parts kits. It also says I can identify length of plunger rod to determine what kit to use. Can someone tell me length and carb number? Or has no one ever recorded that kind of info

Direct answer to your question: Very darn little. My guess is that the Chrysler engineers had some certain specifications for the service a given carb was intended for, so they had Carter (& their other vendors too, I expect) build 'em to those specs. Maybe jet changes, linkage settings, length of accelerator pump shaft, others??

From the Carburetor Shop listings, I count nine different carb numbers. They use three different kits (apparently Carburetor Shop's own numbers)

When I click on the Daytona # 421, I get a msg that the picture is coming soon. The picture that IS shown does mention identifying the carb by the accelerator pump stem length, but doesn't tell what length for which carb - or which kit, thus your dilemma.

IMNSHO, you are overthinking this issue, just like I did several months ago. When the info stream ends all I could do was say "W.T.F.???"

Here are my notes from many hours on the net and the phone. They might help, or they may confuse you. Nonetheless, the fruits of my labors:
Quote:
The Carburetor Shop (573) 392-7378 (9-4 Mon-Wed central time) John ("Crazy John" in Missouri", according to Ron at Daytona)

Parts are available individually, a repair kit for the carburetor is the minimum order.

Kit # 2128 Carter carb #3838 (superseded by #4198) (kit:$72.00

He has a nos 4198 - $600.00 (Wonder if it would need kit?)
*******************************************************
Walker Products 1-970-245-5949
Carb Kit: #: 15483A Kit Instruction: 50-735.pdf
***************************************
Daytona Parts Co. (386)427-7108 (Ron)
$250 + parts & shipping to rebuild your BBS.
*******************************************************
Ron @ Daytona mentioned:
All-American carbs Jacksonville fla (904) 215-6790 REMANUFACTURES carbs (I didn't call them)
******************************************************

I ran all eight of the numbers through the OEM lookup on the Walker page (one # is duplicated) they ALL came back with the same Walker kit # - 15483A.
I got mine at O'Reilly's auto parts, but I'm sure most of the generic parts stores can get that kit.
My nearby O'Reilly's had one on the shelf.

Oiling and flaring: Soak the leather plunger end in light oil for several hours, then spread it out so that you have to guide it into the pump well.

I think they want you to soak the plunger in oil to swell the seal, than take like a small screwdriver under the seal and gently run it around it pulling it outward so it seals good in the well it sits in

What brand did they sell you?

Did you get a leather or rubber accelerator pump? I was wondering about using brake fluid. Or would that be corrosive?

I would use Daytona. They have a COMPLETE Kit -including idle mixture screws. Mine were mis matched and they came thru for me. Saved me running to order other partsIneeded to complete the job.
