Greg, do you have a part number on the torque convertor bolt kit you got from Stage 8. I went to order a set but I don't see them listed specifically for the torque convertor on their web site? Mine are the smaller 5/16" bolts too. Thanks.

Rick

Rick,

Here are the ones I used..

They are listed for a GM.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/stg-8965-a

They are the Big 7/16-20 Thread Size for my converter.

Maybe you can find a thread size that is appropriate from this list and just order an alternate part?

Hello,

I Bought a Wilwood Dynalite rear drag Kit for Ruster and Got it installed this weekend. I also reset the Pinion Depth on the 4.56's and reinstalled them.

Here are some comparisons between the Weight of the Factory Drums & associated Parts, including Parking Brake and bracketery, to the Wilwood kit which has no Provisions for a parking Brake.

Here are Some Of the Drum Parts that had been removed:
Image

Image

That Box of parts was 9.044#
Image

Then The Backing Plates; They Weighed 6.360# for one and the other was 6.392#.
Image

Then The 4 Brake Shoes..
Image

They Weighed 6.300#
Image

All of the Non Rotating parts removed total was 28.096#

I had weighed the Drums at an earlier date and Marked the Weights of each one on the inside of the drum;

They weighed 9.770# and 10.264#, for a total of 20.034# of rotating Mass on the Rear Drum Setup.

The Total Rear Drum and Parking Brake setup was 48.13#.

Now for what replaced it:

The Wilwood kit has Aluminum rotor hats and A Drilled Rotor that weighs in at 6.280# per Side.
Image

Image

That's a total of 12.560# of Rotating Mass for the Rotor Kit versus 20.034# for the drums. That Means 7.474# Less Rotating Mass with the rotors! YAY.

Here is the Rest of the Kit; all of the stationary pieces:
Image

The Hose, caliper, 2 adapters, Pads and Caliper Mount/ Axle retainer weighed in at 5.078# Per Side for a total of 10.156# as opposed to 28.096# of Non Rotating Mass for the Drum Setup.
Image

Drum Setup Total Weight: 48.13#
Disc Setup Total Weight: 22.716#
Ruster Lost: 25.414# YAY!

Here is what the Kit looks Like installed:
Image

Image

Image

So with Loosing 25.414# Ruster Will be lighter - But what is the total weight now?

We have to look all the way back to January 28, 2013 to see:
http://slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... &start=750

At Last Check Ruster was 2184.1#

Take out 25.414#

That Leaves us at 2158.7#

I am pretty Close to the bottom of B gas slat class with driver Now..
at 2377.5#

I will try to Hit test n tune this week at pittsburgh to see if i can get back into the 11's with these changes, at a higher altitude track.

Yes, spring M-D race would be fine, and you could even keep them into the summer if you like.

I just weighed all my junk, so I'm good for a while. My 64 Dart is down to 2940 lbs with me (176 lbs clothed) and 18 gals of gas... We weighed my friend's 2009 Civic LX also, and it is the same - 2745 w/full 13 gal tank plus me equals 2930! With only 13 gals on board, my car is lighter... :P

Test n Tune 8/8/13

I went back to the 4.56 gear and had the rear discs othe car now.

the 4.56s used to whine and howl then they got warm.. so I had mismeqsured the pinion depth.. not that I have the correct pinion depth measurement tool for setting up 8.75 rear ends I decided to measure and reset th depth correctly.. I got in within 0.002". reset the gear lash..

noise was gone, but I think the gears were possibly settling in again..

I made 5 runs and the barometer was reading 29.70 and rising up to 29.9x by the end of the night. air was 70 to 80 degrees and humid in the 80% so air was not great.

car picked up as air got Better and I was back into the 12.20s by the end of the night which compared to my notes from similar air pressure/ tempature/ humidity conditions.

in better air and possibly lower elevation should be able pick up .2-.25 seconds.. which would put me back into the 11s.. I will have to wait until fall and spring.

next expierement will be carb spacer :-)

here were the times:

run1 12.39@106
run2 12.38@106
run3 12.32@107
run4 12.25@107
run5 12.27@107

Hi folks,

I have been expiermenting with some carb spacers.

first I tried a 4 hole 1" tall aluminum spacer and really did not observe any measurable results.

Image
I also weighed the parts as well just for fun! this one weighs 1.678#

I bought 2 of the HVH quick fuel 4 hole spacers for the 4150 square bore carbs. One of the spacers is 1" high and the other is 2" high.
here is what they look like:
Image

Image

due to the taper and radius on the one side of the spacer I needed to convert one of my Clifford manifold adapters from 4 hole to open.
Here are some photos of that process:
Image

Image

Image

The unmodified four hole Clifford manifold adapter weighed just a tad over 1.0#
Image

hers is the Clifford piece with the 4 hole center cut out.. I now have a nice Maltese cross to decorate the shop!
Image

Image

the open center adapter now only weighs 0.822#
Image

Here is the finished job.
Image

when the open Clifford adapter is on the manifold there is a big hunk of aluminum in the way of the flow.. I will have to take the manifold off and do some reworking at some point later.
Image

Image

The 2" tall spacer is too tall for the carb studs and also too tall for the hood.
To try the 2" tall spacer I will have to rework the hood pins and heights of the hood. I will try it when I get all the parts to do so.
Image

The 1" tall spacer weighed 0.898#
Image

The 2" spacer weighed 1.638#
Image

stay tuned, when I get some test sessions in I will post results.

Greg
