What is the best / easiest way to remove and replace the dizzy without mucking up the timing? (I have the motor out of the car and on an engine stand at the moment).

Thanks.

take the cap off-- note the position of the rotor-- (which cylinder it is pointing at)-- remove said dizzy--- re-install with rotor pointing to same cylinder-- done.

This works if you do not change anything-- do not rotate the motor or switch to petronix--.

What would switching to Pertronix do?

You need to retime the engine when you install a pertronix because it's build in pickup isn't in the same spot as the points.
