would like to upgrade to a more efficient fan blade..is there anything good out there?
we had a flex fiberglass on aluminum one back in the day on our 440 6pack dodge aspen and no shroud, I was bending over and moved to the drivers side revving the engine and it exploded send fiberglass into the hood..kinda dangerous

if you have space between the radiator and the waterpump, have you considered a mechanican fan clutch?
and also, if you have one, make sure your fan shroud is intact and the fan sits correctly in its opening. i would probably say the shroud is more important than new fan.

are you against an electric fans? or just want the simplicity of the mechanical fan?

the car has never had a fan shroud since we have owned it.

aggressive ted did a neat upgrade to an electric fan (two, actually), which is much safer and saves fuel, too.

i have gone electric on mine. never looked back.

if you want a cheap and quick way to improve cooling efficiency, then go with a shroud first.

im even looking at a electric water pump conversion from davies craig http://www.daviescraig.com.au/Electric_ ... -list.aspx
but i need more green before i do this.

I agree, go electric. AggressiveTed's twin fan setup can take care of most situations. I use a single electric 16" fan with curved blades now, but I am still not quite used to leaning over the engine without my heart beating harder!

BTW, I have been driving for a while without a temp activated switch for the fan, just a manual switch, and I discovered that the fan is only really needed in heavy traffic, or when idling. My engine is a stock supersix.

Along this line has anyone tried using the temp.lite switch to turn on the fan?At what temp. does the lite come on?

Yes, I have.....
You can buy them that turn on at a fixed temp such as: 210, 200, 195, 185 and 175 degrees. I am running two in parallel, the first one is at 185 and the second as a safety backup at 210 in case the 185 should fail. I also have a manual override switch to turn them on anytime. When ever the fan turns on my light goes on.......

For simplicity I ran a Flex-a-lite (Summit FLX-1317) 17'' fan on my street driven Dart and works well.Much lighter,Aluminum with stainless blades,6 blades instead of the 4 blade factory steel.About 40 bucks new.17'' is the largest you can run with a factory radiator to clear the upper hose. I didn't have a shroud. Just a thought.

i have 185 deg switch in mine, and a manual switch too.
i agree that its really at low speed the fan is needed. when your moving at 30 mph or over, there fan is always off.
