Greg,

I had asked about the 750 you are running before and you mentioned it was fairly close to stock. I have the Edelbrock 750 which I believe is the same as the AFB Competition. Stock jetting is at 113/107. Think this is to much?? Or should I play around with metering rods??

The engine should be close (hopefully) to 12:1 compression. I keep hearing it will be too much, but I have seen quite a few /6's with 750 carbs.

I'm sure something else may work better but I'm not wealthy enough to play with all the options out there. Using what's laying

Good job on the weight reduction! If I ever get the tube chassis car done, I am really not sure it will weigh much less than where you are now. I'm starting to question whether it's even worth it. I think I should just go for the stock bodied car build. It is less expensive to do what you are doing and a lot less headache.

Thanks for the inspirational thread.
I am by no means the first dude to do weight reduction on a Dedicated slant drag car.
In the Slant Racing world Seymour and Guzzi Mark precede and pre date my efforts... I am just copying what they did and Documenting everything here in the thread. I still have a ways to go to get to the Guzzi car / Seymour blue car weight / functionality / style.

I don't currently remember what my Jetting is on the 750 AFB.. I will Have to pop the top and look at the Jet Numbers, and Get back to you on that. The numbers you mention seem a bit big, but I cant remember stuff like that, unless I refer to Notes... I am Dumb, that's why I write stuff down.. my pea brain can't remember and will not compute sometimes.

I wouldn't worry much about the rods.. Unless you are working on Power / Cruise Factors for street use I almost never worry about the rods for a drag car. Just jetting changes.

Well I went to the doctor this week.. I lost 7# off my body! YAY!

Now Onto Ruster... It lost More than I did..

The whole Reason I Started the Rear Wheel tubs on this project was to get a bit more clearance for My New rear wheels.

They are each 1.9# ligher than the Centerlines they are replacing.
Image

These welds Weigh 12.6#
Image

Image

Image

Compared to the old centerlines.. Which I had weighed a bit a go..They came in at 14.5# a piece.
Image

Image

Here are some shots of the Wheel tub Progress:
Image

Image

I thought I would cut out some unneeded parts too:
Image

That Was 3.2# of unneeded stuff.
Take .2Off for the box.
Image

Also I will be redoing almost all the wiring on the car. Here the stock rear wiring harness goes -1.6#
Image

Image

Add 3.3# for the Aluminum Wheel tub on the Left Side.
Image

Image

I Began to work on the front of the car now. Inner fender is gone..
Image

9.1# gone - Take .2# off for the box.
Image

So at last check Ruster was 2122.2
- 3.8# for Lighter Weld Wheels
-3.2# for Random Stuff I cut off.
-1.6# for Rear wiring Harness.
+3.3# for Wheel Tub in AL
-9.1# for LF inner fender gone.

Now Ruster is weighing in at
2107.8#

By next week Ruster will be under 2100#

It's Been a while since I have Posed any updates, at this point I am focusing on making updates to the Front of the car, also Completely redoing the Wiring on the entire car ( I Tied everything into the Existing stock 1968 A body Harness Before) I probably Will be lightening the k Frame also this Winter.. and going to a Megasquirt III to run the Spark - So I am tossing my single coil and Distributor.

Here is what has Happened in the last 3 weeks:

I got a new "Crew Chief".... Who Knows Maybe She will Take over Driving responsibilities in 18 Years? Her Name is Ava Rose.
Image

Image

Then Ruster Lost some More weight:
I cut out the RF Inner Fender and Chisiled off all the Left over spot weld Nuggets that Did not connect to anything once Parts were removed from the car..

RF Inner Fender and Lots of Misc Bits.. Pinch weld seams removed etc.
Image

Image

All of that Junk was worth 10.3# - Take off .2# for the Container.
Image

Next Went the Factory A Body Front Harness - That Removed 1.7#
Image

Image

Next all of the Old Cam drven Bits are not going to be reused again..
- 13.5# for MSD Box, Coil, Dist & Wires, Oil Pump etc.
Image

Image

Of course I will have to weigh the Coils and Megasquirt Box etc.. that replaces all of that stuff.

Here are some Pics of Welding / Reinforcing Front Frame rails and What the Front Kick panels Look like after taking 2# of Pinch weld seams off and welding them back together.

Look Ma, No Inner Fenders :-)

Weld Reinforced Front Frame Rails:

Bye Bye Pinch Weld Seams:

The Weigh In:

At Last Check Ruster weigher 2107.8#
I removed 25.5# of stuff. ( of course I will need to weigh all of the New wiring and megasquirt stuff that i Add back on to the car), But..

At this point Ruster Weighs
2082.3# YAY!
Now..
If I can get 82 More Pounds out of the Roof, Interior Wiring, drivers Door,Front suspension, Crank, and Transmission then I think the 2000# mark is not all that far off. Yes it's Work, but all the little 2# boxes of Silly Bits that get chiseled off the car add up.. Mark and Seymour Know this process all too well!

Greg,

My mom,, from Export Pa, just across the ridge from Irwin Pa, was named Rose,
My son John and his wife Beth named their first child Rose,,
As a kid back in the 60's, my summer family vacations were in the hills and hollers of Irwin / Export Pa,, small world,,, I remember the blue berry pancakes of the Lamplighter Inn,,
I have home videos from that time..

All is well, Merry Christmas!
Slovenian births are the best :D

regards
John

That is the best birth announcement I have ever seen, Greg. Ava Rose will fit right into your family, I'm sure. Congrats to you and Michelle!

Congrats on the 2100# barrier too.

Warm wishes, Lou
