Huh, I haven't needed to get that in depth to a BBD for a long time, so I haven't seen that bfore.

The Carter Carb Manuals link works fine for me. It links to a zip file that automatically begins downloading.

A 5/16 drill bit from the top will fall right down between the center venturi and carb wall on v8 1-3/16 venturi carbs, will not fit threw on small venturi 1-1/16 slant carbs. On small carbs a 1/4 drill will just barely pass threw. A word of caution starting 1978 318 v8s got smaller venturi 1-1/16 carbs. Casting number 0-2543 and 0-2681 are slant carbs. I looked at several of them. The choke linkage looks right. 8137s is 1978 sedan 3500# weight class auto for 225.

Theres been a couple links posted in a thread that I started about a week ago titled "timing chain?".... matv91 posted them, doesnt get specific on what spring/rod/jet combos came in wich vehicles (im assuming because the variations could be endless depending on climate, elevation, vehicle weight, gearing, trans, etc...) but does list sizes and numbers...

Also due to the differences in fuel today vs fuels of yesterday, experimenting with different combos may be very useful rather than try to mimick what chrysler did 30+ years ago...

He helped me realize that my carb (reman with out a tag) is a 78-79 with a set up for a manual trans cars, but with a heavier spring under the step-up piston and accel pump the carb now responds very well to my wagon with an auto trans and tall gears... Just food for thought! :D
I read the post you had a week or so ago and yes the spring ( that stupid little spring ) made a world of difference.

After reading that I decided that I needed to set-up my carb correctly, that means finding out how it would have been set up specifically when it was new for that SPECIFIC application.

That is the info I am trying to get now.

I am trying to find out if a factory service manual for say 1978 Volare, Lebaron, Diplomat or Aspen would give that information.

I have asked for help with a FSM on another forum to see if the info exists.

If it did than maybe I can find the same FSM for ( just as an instance ) 19?? Full size Dodge truck ( like my own ) and use the same items in my Carter re-build.

People have told me not to bother, some that I am wasting my time.

I disagree. How could it be a waste of time. Excessive maybe but look at that little spring in your own carb?? I dont think excessive.

Maybe the info is not avail. If thats the case than I will just take the easy way out and throw a Napa re-build kit in it.

I say take the easy way out but in fact I have ZERO experience with re-building this carb and so it will not be easy for me.

I am thinking of it this way.....if it were 1978 and I could go to dealer and order and carb I wanted but I owned a 1978 full size Dodge truck than would I order a carb for a 1978 Aspen?

Of course not, their are differences in internal calibrations.

Why do it twice now with switching out parts after its re-built and paying with it.

Maybe thats my only option at this point but I have to at least give it my best to try and find the ideal set-up now.

That 8137s carb looks ok for 1/2 ton stick or auto.METERING ROD 75-2228 a little bit richer than the truck ones. 61-226 vacuum piston spring{THATS THE STUPID LITTLE SPRING} are the same. MAIN JET 120-386 {.086}the same. 118-362s venturi cover assembly{ thats the idle fuel feed and main system air bleed} are the same. Trucks for 1978 got 101-639 venturi cluster screw. Cars got 101-569 and in 79 the trucks got 101-569.Venturi cluster screws came in many different part numbers. Carter never printed the actual sizes just the part numbers. I have measured some of them. The cluster screws contain the the first idle air bleed and the economiser idle down channel restricter. 101-639 air .067 restrictor .055 101-569 air .059 restrictor also .059 So I think the better one is 101-569 . .059 lets less air in so the mix is richer and .059 is more open to down channel flow.

Thank-you sir, where was this information pulled from?

I will be working on absorbing all of this and putting it to good use. You were correct 1/2 ton.

Thanks again for your time
