been driving the 83 D150 a lot this summer, very predictable performance,
ran the road up to the Chicago area, bought gas at the

13.5 gallons in a 26 gallon tank..
and started home to Indy, ran fine on 65 S
65 to 70 no issues, I do have a LED knock sensor and it lite more than normal, issue was as soon as I got off the highway, the 83 D150 would not idle, it would re start as normal on a hit of the key, let off the throttle and it would die, ran the idle adjustment up, no change
got home-city driving with a lot of agrivation, figured I burnt a valve, checked compression

after 15K miles a testament to the work at Ed's Machine Shop in Morresville IN, recommended shop...
back to the issue..
I could screw with the carb and get it to idle,,sort of,, with everything hugely out of balance, like it did when it had a huge vacuum leak, pulled the intake and dual Dutra's,, everything was sealed fine, just a lot of fun for no good reason, seriously,, it is a PITA to pull and re set a slant six manifold system, on a D150, for no good reason..

The 83 D150 is running a 90 D150 fuel system, in tank pump, ,,, with that I have a Fram Filter.

the fuel that was in the fuel filter housing, does not even smell like gasoline, I got a tank full of water-gas ,,

"water" bottle has what was drained from the fuel filter housing, figure I have another 13 gallons of that in the fuel tank.
breaking to the story, I will be calling that dealer and Mobile tomorrow,
got some water diluted gas to resolve.

This sounds like a big fire just waiting to happen. Also sounds like you've been lucky…so far.

SSD, you missed the point of this post, regardless, the 83 D150 has an engineered fuel system with a by pass regulator cutting the in tank pump pressure down to a dead head regulator to feed the carb, meanwhile, back to the post on bad fuel...

no inertia lock out, I do have the fuel pump power relay activated off the oil pressure switch...
the tank vent has the OE roll over valve installed and functioning..

It's amazing that it ran that well all the way home John.

changed out the inline fuel filter, figured I should go ahead an change the filter on the in tank pump,

when I set up the fuel system, I also cut in a removable panel in the floor of the bed, in case I needed to service the in tank pump,

worked out real nice,,
along with the knock sensor flashing occasionally, the engine temp gauge was indicating a lower than normal coolant temp,, not a lot, but enough to notice and think,, 'that is not where it normally runs..'

maybe it was motoring along on water power.

More like hybrid gas/steam... Now if you could hookup four of those Tucker torque converters for each wheel, and a pop-out windshield.
