Headwork and oversized valves are the biggest gains you can spend your money on. Followed by intake and exhaust.

Greg
head work - I'm having this put on this winter. Did this last year but never had time to get it installed. I did all the porting and valve multi-angle cuts, local shop did the oversize valve install and head milling. http://www.pbase.com/spacecommander/dodge If you look at some of the pictures of the original ports - you can see how horrible they are.
That head looks good in the after pictures. I agree, the biggest detriment to power on the slant six is the head. I did a little port work on mine and burned up a Dremel tool doing it, but when I added a 2bbl and dual Dutra exhaust it really woke it up.

I burned out a dremel too and got a flexible shaft one that really worked great - even though it was a Hazard Fraught (Harbor Freight) Tools special. ;-)

Dremel is too light but works OK for polishing where needed, to do the job right you should have a set of 3/8" shank die grinding balls/flames/etc and one set with extended shafts... my poor 31 gallon air compressor barely keeps up with a full port session...

A stock engine street port would take a couple hours to complete all the ports... a little longer for the next step up, 230HP build about 8 hours... on my last 2 heads I spent about 12 hours on them... just to give you a time estimate...

@Spacecommander, your pictures are excellent - thank you for going through the troubles of documenting your progress/process, it will really help me to plan for my work! -Chris

@DusterIdiot - much appreciate the time references. 230 is the goal. New tools are also on the list (Yes!).
