Just finished putting together the head for my Lancer. I am using the 75-77 head, 3698447, and it must weigh a ton! Next time I build one of these heads I am going to cut the cast iron out from the push rod side and see how much I can save.

I think those heads are about 10 lbs heavier than the earlier heads. I would be curious to see how much you could lighten the head, but I don't think it would be near 10 lbs.
I am curious, what is the lightest factory slant head and what is the lightest iron head anyone has built?

LOL... yeah compared to the 1974 and earlier drool tube head or the 1981-1987 hydro motor head, it's a monster... but not as heavy as the non-exhaust air port injection head that has the lack of air ports and passages...

It will take a while to carve out that section, I've run a burr in there to help with oiling and relieve the pushrod holes a bit when running 3/8" pushrods...there's a lot of meat.

I don't think I've ever figured out what's worse in weight and lower back soreness... laying an early to mid-60's forged crank or a 1975-1980 head....

I am getting ready to send a 220635-2 head off my 1962 to the machine shop for work. Bare and clean
66/67lbs. When I get it together again I will weight it to get a total.

I will weigh it tomorrow, I am guessing 85 with valves.
It will take a while to get that much cast iron off for sure.
I wonder if this head would be good for a turbo and for gasket sealing?

Nice. I was thinking I am coming old and weak. 35 years ago it was easy to install mid-60's head alone. Now with small plug head I need a crane or assistant. But it was only because they have add material for late heads. :D

Just got my head put back together after the machine work. Complete from plugs to stat housing. 74/75 lbs.

Put it on the scale, 80.8 with valves and springs. After .100 cut. No t-stat or rockers. Dang.

Must be a record! Lots of metal to hog out to make flow... Mike J said he liked those late 70s heads best for that reason - more material to remove.

Yeah, it's not a weight saver, and the pushrod holes are a bit small... but the "Fatpak" head I hogged the crap out of to port match that intake...
I hadn't hit water and i know a drool tube head wouldn't take that kind of abuse....
