Hi all

Looking for some specific carb- kit info--

Carter BBD 8198S --- when engine has been run and is hot, and then parked, fuel begins to percolate and then we get a drip (once every 3-5 seconds) of fuel from the main throttle plate rod.....it comes out, runs along the spring and then drips....

Once the engine cools down it stops.

Carb was a new reman in package, still shrink wrapped rebuild from the 80s, and has run good, even now.....was installed maybe a year ago.

Upper body gaskets are looking soaked though.

Some good folks on the F body forum say its likely the float out of whack or dirt in the needle seat or maybe a hard seat. And that makes sense.....the carb, though "newly redone" was sitting for who knows how long.

SO I need a rebuild kit.

On rock auto they list a parts kit for the 80 Volare 2 bbl, but specify :

Fits2BBL; w/ Carter Carb.; w/ Mexico Emissions; BBD; 8314-8315
Or2BBL; w/ Carter Carb.; BBD; 8250, 8286-8287; w/ Canada or Export Emissions

So the query for all the slant 6 carb gurus here.....is this kit gonna work fine? Or keep looking?

8198s was for 1979 225 auto, federal emissions sedan weight class 3500 lbs and may be canada. In the us mid year running production change,8198s was replaced by 8264s . 1979 was last year for us bbd on cars for slantsix,still used in canada in 1980. Carter zip kit 902-325b 225 bbds 1977 -1980.

Thanks! From what I can figure, looks like the kit we bought covers multiple years, including our 8198S.
