I just fixed some timing issues only to have my D100 with a 225 slant 6 overheat about 1 mile from home

I replaced the thermostat water pump and radiator cap

ran it in my drive for 1 hour with radiator off

Ran well no steam or overheating

My question is I was looking for flow of coolant in radiator when thermostat opens I shot a video but its too big to send.

Not sure if coolant is flowing, is it a high flow?

Does anyone have a video of what it should look like?

How is that possible when you have the radiator off? After a hour your motor should be a melted, warped mess. New parts won't do diddlysquat if your radiator is a plugged up mess! So what's the problem again, you lost me????????????????????????

My mistake I had the radiator cap off

Radiator was installed

Need the cap on for correct pressure and often to have correct circulation.. If you have a laser thermometer you can track the temps of the rad from top to bottom and check circulation. They are not expensive and are really useful.

Well I took the truck on a 20 mile drive and made it home without any overheating

I had some seepage from lower hose but found the clamp was loose.

Hello Everyone

Well after working on the floor boards I took my truck (1971 Dodge D100 with 225 slant) out for a ride

The filler neck on the radiator cracked and the truck overheated....

After driving and waiting 20 minutes between stops I finally got her home (4 miles)

Well I found a 1974 Valiant radiator used near me and bought it.

Installed the used one are ran it around the block....

A little steam came out through the filler neck port and was deposited on the driveway

Went for a longer ride and lots of smoke came out same place

now engine is running poorly and I fear I have damaged it.

Top hose going into radiator was hot bottom hose from water-pump was cold

New water pump thermostat and hoses

I'm stumped any help please?

I fear I now have a bad radiator as well as head gasket?

Runs poorly and knock after I shut off key.

No flow through your "new" radiator. Lower radiator hose should at least get warm if it is allowing coolant to flow.

Regarding engine noises-knocks and what not. If starting the engine when it is cold after sitting overnight, does it still make noises?

I will start her up tomorrow and report back thanks

Good news

She started up without any issues

I ran her in the drive for an hour with a funnel full of coolant and saw many tiny bubbles escaping.

When the lower hose was as warm as the upper I shut her down

Took her for a 17 mile run and she did well

no hissing sputtering or detonation
