Any problems or down side to removing the shield by the dist and oil filter?

It's there for a real good reason, to keep water and mud and other gunk from hitting the distributor. It weighs almost nothing. Why would you remove it?

Because the crack between the bolt holes. If you remove it, drive slow thru deep puddles, or you will soak the distributor.

I think the modern ignition systems have lessened the need for that shield. Not that I think they are a bad idea or anything. Because they aren't. I was just thinking about my truck. We drove back from a race in Bristol a couple of years ago in torrential rains for about 4-5 hours solid. Truck doesn't have a shield and never made a peep! I know I coudln't have done that with a points car! :D :D

Anyone got a picture of one? I've never seen one and did not know such a thing exists. Both of my trucks are missing the shield as well, and I would like to make one.

The first picture in this article:

http://www.slantsix.org/articles/Distri ... %20IIa.htm

Shows the shield on the left side of the picture in relation to the distributor, it is held by 2 bolts mounting the oil pump.

Thanks DI. I can create something like that.

I have a few spare shields that could be mailed-out, if needed.
Send me a PM if interested.
