Dear Slant 6 sages,

I am contemplating running Microsquirt on a new/upgraded EFI system on one of my cars. This little bugger appears to have about everything I would need for a "non-all-out" EFI system. I would be upgrading from 2003-vintage MS-I ECU and will run port EFI and likely coil pack (wasted spark) ignition. I have MS3X (more functionality) running on the Project V Valiant, but feel that the Microsquirt would likely do everything I want at a fraction of the price ($400 vs. $800-1600 for MS3 or MS Pro). It seems you also need an external MAP sensor for Microsquirt, which is about $100.

I am wondering if any of you are running Microsquirt. What are your experiences and/or how do you feel about it?

Anyone contemplating using Microsquirt and have thoughts?

Thanks!

Lou

I have a Microsquirt, but I am not running it yet. Mine has the modification to run LS coils in wasted spark mode. I feel it needs a couple of extra outputs to control stuff. I am surprised that DiyAutoTune hasn't come out with an expansion box to connect to the CAN bus. (Matt, hint... hint... hint...)

Thanks, Kesteb. One of the extra outputs can be used to do 3 ign outputs for wasted spark. Seems sensible to me. Only thing you miss is sequential (separate inj outputs), but that does not seem like a big loss to me.

It also won't run the IAC sensor for GM based throttle bodies. But there is a box that you can wire in to do so. Except you loose those extra outputs to run the LS coils.

I have never hooked up IAC on any of my stuff, so that would not be a big loss.

The MicroSquirt has been my go-to recommendation for someone who wants a basic MegaSquirt for a while. At this point, the only reasons I'd recommend a regular MS2 are (1) really wanting to build a kit, (2) needing stepper IAC or peak and hold injector control, or (3) wanting an easy upgrade path to MS3 later.

Great, thanks Matt! That is very helpful from someone as knowledgeable and experienced as you. At some point I will probably upgrade my MS1 on the turbo (torqstorm pending) 68 Dart to Microsquirt.

Best wishes,
Lou
